Daytime

During this four-hour workshop you will learn the basics of decoupage with Gabriela Szulman. Using this method, you'll create your own colourful, original design on a mirror frame or a jewellery box to take home. No experience is necessary to take part in this relaxed, informal class which is suitable for adults and children over 12 (who must be accompanied by an adult at all times). All materials included.

Should you wish to continue experimenting with this technique at home, you will be able to purchase blanks such as boxes, trays and frames as well as suitable papers at the end of the class.

Your tutor for this Creative Happy London workshop is Gabriela Szulman, mixed-media artist and long-term Camberwell resident. Gabriela creates collages, prints and cards, and also upcycles anything from shoes to furniture with a fusion of painting and decoupage. Her images are inspired by memory, nostalgia and everything vintage. Using re-purposed and found materials is at the core of Gabriela's work and the creative techniques she teaches from the studio.

Did you know?

Influenced by a tradition of cut work that includes the paper cutting of the ancient Chinese, the felt appliqués found among the Siberian peoples, and the Polish folk art of paper cutting, decoupage originated in France in the 17th century as a means of decorating bookcases, cabinets, and other pieces of furniture.

I was a little apprehensive I admit - but need not have worried. A lovely, warm (in temperature as well as mood) and professional art studio run by a skilled and empathetic tutor. Having all the materials on hand was a 100% bonus (trying to buy recommended materials is a nightmare if you are not familiar with the art form). 5 stars to Gabriela!

It was actually the decoupage on glass class which I took - it was fabulous! ^_^ Gabriela was an amazing teacher and her studio was so cosy and welcoming. It was the perfect afternoon - relaxing whilst also learning something new which I'd wanted to do for a while. Thank you to her and the ladies at London Craft Club!

I found the whole lesson very interesting and helpful. It's wonderful to turn up somewhere and leave with a new experience and also an object that is finished and ready to give as a gift, or keep of course.
