What happens in this class?

This is a private, in-person class for stressed teenagers.

'Calming', 'soothing', 'therapeutic'. Just a few of the words used to describe the effect string art has on first time participants in this little-known craft.

The craft of string art involves sewing on card, creating geometric designs. You can make cards to give to family and friends, or pieces of art that can be framed and displayed for all to see.

Personalised classes are facilitated by London-based, DBS-checked teacher, Laurie O'Garro, who has been teaching string art to children and young people since 2014. She has…

Things to remember

All materials are provided and just so you know, steel needles, albeit with blunted tips, are used.

String art is a clean craft, so if done in your home, the only mess we'll create is bits of thread on the floor!

FAQs
WHY IS THE CLASS SO LONG?
String art takes a long time, but don't worry, your child will be engaged for the entire time and will not be bored. They'll love watching how the design takes shape.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES MY CHILD NEED?
Nothing! I provide all of the materials - thread, card, scissors and card.
DO YOU NEED A LOT OF SPACE?
No, we'll manage fine seated around a table.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE OPT FOR A CAFE CLASS?
You choose the cafe , and I will meet your son or daughter there. And I will meet you there. At the end of the session, your teen will make their own way home.
WE'D PREFER TO DO THE SESSION IN A CAFE. DO WE NEED TO DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT?
No, you only need to ensure your son or daughter (and friends, if attending) has money to buy refreshments.
HOW WILL WE RECOGNISE YOU?!
I'll have my materials laid out on the table!
IS THERE FLEXIBILITY IN THE START AND END TIME?
Yes. If you need to start the class slightly earlier or later, that will be fine. I endeavour to finish the class on time, but if we need a little longer, and you have the flexibility, I can stay an extra 15 - 30 minutes at no extra cost.
I'VE BOOKED AN HOUR, BUT WHAT IF MY TEEN WANTS TO CONTINUE BEYOND THE ALLOTTED TIME?
As long as there is no booking after the session, you will be able to pay on the day for an additional thirty minutes or hour.

Laurie was a fab teacher. She taught a group of our Time for Me members how to do string art on cards which was really interesting and engaging for them. I guess 2 hours isn't really long enough. Definitely would like Laurie to come again. She was calm, supportive and really helped the attendees with doing the task. Thank you very much!
