What happens in this class?

Organic cotton tote bag included and prepared (scoured/thoroughly washed) prior to the class. Other materials, like needles, thread and indigo will also be included.

The class will begin with an introduction to the plant and natural dye, Indigo. You will learn how to create patterns using traditional stitching and binding shibori techniques. These stitches act as resists, so when you dye the item, only the exposed fabric is dyed, creating beautiful patterns onto cloth. With a background in fashion and textiles, Kylie began her professional artistic practice as a natural dyer when she joined a studio in Kingsgate Workshops. Having a dedicated workspace has allowed Kylie to develop her skills, teach bundle-dye workshops and complete natural dye projects. As a natural dyer and textile designer who creates colour from dye plants, which means she extracts natural pigments from a variety of plants and dye stuffs like roots, barks, leaves, food waste and floral waste.
