2 hour workshop
This is an introduction to fine leather working for beginners. You will learn about the history of leather; luxury leather working secrets and you can craft as many items as you like in the remainder of the workshop (from a choice of five items).
The class will begin with welcome with drink and snacks followed by an introduction to the craftsman and his practice. You will gain an insight into the life of a full time artist craftsman living and working in London.
There will then be a discussion on the history of leather, different types of leather, tanning process, sustainability, environmental impact and welfare issues which are at the heart of the practice.
You will be given an overview of the crafting process, tools and how to use them and safety procedures before going on to choosing patterns and leather to make you chosen item(s).
During the class you will work on your item whilst receiving individual guidance to ensure you handcraft a beautiful item which you will be proud to use or gift! Make as many items as you can in the time or come to the workshop again and again! :)

Techniques you will learn:
- Tracing and pattern cutting
- Clicking (cutting) leather pieces
- Burnish leather and edges
- Use a professional heated creasing tool to add a luxurious touch
- Learn to fix brass hardware to complete the look
You can take what you learn from this workshop to start making leathergoods at home with minimal tool investment.

About your host, YUSSICO
YUSSICO is a handsewn bespoke leathergoods label by Yusuf Osman. Drawn to the creative life, Yusuf left the law and travelled the world to learn from the best. He combines centuries old traditions from masters of English heritage with the elegance and finesse learned from fabled European leather goods brands to give you a unique take on the craft. Yusuf has a growing list of international clientele for his bespoke work and private lessons. He also teaches the craft to students at secondary schools to preserve the tradition.
Yusuf's work has been exhibited at the Walsall Leather Museum in England and he is also a professional aerial circus artists who crafts bags to use in performances.
Yusuf is passionate about widening participation in the crafts and is opening up his studio to give people a chance to experience high end leather working as practiced by the most fabled leather goods brands in Europe. You will learn techniques not taught anywhere else and leave with a greater knowledge of the industry, sustainability and leave with a handcrafted product to be proud of and a passion to keep crafting!
Cockpit Arts is a 24/7 secure facility. Please arrive promptly at the designated start time so I can collect all of you together and take you to my studio. On street parking is available. I will provide drinks and light snacks and all the materials and tools you need to complete your item.
