    Never found that perfect beanie for your favourite winter outfit? Well, look no further than this knit a beanie class where you'll learn how to knit a beanie, your very own way. This class is ideal for fairly new knitters, who know how to cast on, knit & purl stich and cast off, as well as being great for improvers.

    In this class

    Let Jill Bulgan take you through all the essential skills in circular needle knitting - you'll be knitting beanies for the whole family in not time! You'll mastering ribbing for headband elastication as well as experiencing '3d knitting'.

    Now you can

    • 'decrease' to create perfect shaping for the crown
    • experiment with a wide range of colours and patterns and know what looks good on you.
    • put your new skills into practice and go crazy: Next stop, pom pom making!


    • 100g - 200g of DK yarn (depending on size and style of hat)
    • 4mm x 40cm circular needles (bring your own or items are available to purchase in our shop)

    Did you know?

    Not all young and budding hat-makers such as yourselves had such a fun time of it. In the early 20th century, the process of making felt for hats involved the use of mercury, a highly toxic substance. Prolonged exposure can cause damage to the nervous system, tremors and dementia. Hence, the phrase "Mad as a hatter" was born

    Fabrications - an East London based creative hub!

    Fabrications is an independent gallery, shop and workshop dedicated to the best contemporary textile practice and design, with a particular interest in eco-conscious design.

    Fabrications opened in June 2000 in a refurbished derelict shop on Broadway Market in Hackney, East London. The shop's founder, Barley Massey, has spent the last 16 years finding ingenious ways to turn scraps into original fabrics and using recycled materials to create cutting-edge items. Since 2012, "The Imaginarium", a fully-fitted working studio, has hosted workshops and classes.

    Barley has been awarded as one of Kevin McCloud's (Grand Designs) Green Heroes for her minimally-processed, up-cycled products, which "demonstrate a lightness of touch backed up by a rigorous approach".
