This embroidery class will also help you explore mindfulness while stitching which is about to having a deeper awareness of the self in the present moment.  You may not be able to complete your design in the workshop but will have all the tools needed to do this at home.

Theme:

In the class, we will be meditating upon the power of words through the medium of stitch. Words have many Meanings and a great inspiration is ABRA KADABRA!!!! which translates ’as I say I create'. Our words are our wands, and the words we speak hold a lot of weight and give great power to ourselves and the people around us and ultimately informs how we perceive and create our own reality.

What you will learn:

We will be exploring this idea through a series of words which we will translate to stitch. We will start off with friendly welcome. I will be teaching in the class a variety of stitches which include satin, chain, couching, spit stitch, back stitch and French knots. A comprehensive step by step guide will be provided along with all embroidery materials and of course professional guidance from myself.

Why mindful embroidery?

I not only wanted to provide a creative, open space to share but also to engage you all in meditative embroidery. This repetitive hand movement serves as great way to practice meditation, connect to the sacred and attain mindfulness for those of us who find it just too hard to just stop everything, to be silent and still. To be at one with ourselves in a fast-paced world!

As the founder and creator of Lupercalia London, Scott Heron is very passionate about embroidery and several other creative modalities that connect to wellbeing. Having practiced and specialising in hand embroidery professionally in the industry for the past eight years, following a degree in textile design, Scott continues his work as Head of Design at the 250 year old embroidery house Hand & Lock. 

Designing embroidery for a wide range of clientele, Scott has seen his work in fashion, interiors, television and film as well as ecclesiastical, the military and royalty in the United Kingdom and overseas. Scott is very well versed in design, technicalities and execution of hand embroidery. Through these workshops, he will endeavour to pass this knowledge onto his participants.

Terrarium Workshop - Slim Cork Jar

Come and enjoy this 2.5 hour workshop getting creative and jewellery making. Craft your very own hammered sterling silver ring, whether as a gift for somebody or a treat for yourself. Hosted by close expert jewellers.

They will guide you through the process of making a ring using traditional goldsmithing techniques such as annealing, forging, soldering, and filing to name but a few. In this workshop you will have the option of making either a wide hammered band or two fine hammered stacking rings (as pictured). Over the course of the class you will have plenty of opportunity to practice your newfound skills, as demonstrated by the jewellers throughout.

There’ll be plenty of opportunity for one-to-one interaction with the jewellers during your session.

We offer gold plating as an optional extra which can be requested and paid for at the end of the workshop. Choose from yellow gold, rose gold or black rhodium plating for your finished ring(s) - prices range from £20 - £40. Please note this service takes up to 3 weeks and you will need to leave your ring(s) with us, which can then be collected or posted out.

Suitable for complete beginners with no previous jewellery making experience.

You will use a foot-powered pole lathe to turn your own wooden bowl from locally grown wood.

Starting by learning good axe technique to prepare your bowl blank then how to set up a pole lathe you will move on to master the use of bowl turning hook tools.

 Craft My Day Party - Thames Ditton

In this three hour class you will learn the basics of TIG welding on mild steel.

Starting out with an explanation on how this form of welding works, settings and parts on the machine, how to position yourself and hold the torch.
You will then have a go at striking the arc on a piece of steel, running a bead without filler rod before moving on to learning how to move and dab filler rod in to the weld puddle.

Dan will then talk you through the various types of weld joints, show you how to tack two pieces together and then run a full weld across the joint.

At this point there will be a break before you come back and have a go at welding an outside corner joint. This is in preparation for the metal dice that you will weld together yourself and take home with you to finish off however you like.

For a small surcharge you can have the dice powder coated in any colour you like. Or just leave it raw with the welding marks on it!

Due to COVID-19, Stööki are now hosting smaller group and individual sessions to comply with government guidelines and for a more intimate making experience. This workshop will be focused on the creation and personalisation of rings and pendants and led by Stööki's jewellery technologist Nadia Abbas.

In this workshop you will:

Get an insight in to the jewellery making process
Receive a wax ring or pendant template to customise with your own design
Get a tutorial covering a range of jewellery making techniques

The aim is to have a finished wax master at the end of the workshop that can be taken home, but there is also the option of turning your personalised wax ring or pendant into a finished jewellery piece.

This is a drop in class to learn the crafty skill of pattern cutting. During this class you will have the opportunity to make a pattern from a block , adjust a ready-made pattern or even make your own block with free hand cutting style.

As a drop-in session, some, but not all of the points below will be covered over 3 hours - this will depend on your ability and how many sessions you have attended in the past:

Hello and welcome.  My name is Claire and I own Couchman Bespoke an ethical tailoring company based in London, UK.

Learn to sew beyond a straight line, we will cover curves and seams too.  We will go through the machine from all angles if needed too.  Whether you are learning to sew for the first time or to top up on the knowledge you already have.  Bring a readiness to learn and maybe a notebook for all that you learn, I may take some photos for use on my social media if you allow and can forward them onto you after.

Do you have a sewing machine that you have barely touched or are super new to sewing, and would love to have someone show you the ropes?   I can now offer this class virtually, though you are welcome to bring your machine into the in-person class.   We will explore the sewing machine through the differing components, dials and how to thread it up.  If you have questions about the different feet supplied with your machine they can be answered.

This hour lesson will cover the sewing machine, sewing straight lines (what to look for when sewing), taking it to a curved edge and even a few different seam styles.  Choose from 1 to 1 or group class. You will enjoy a pleasant environment with a patient tutor near Canning Town station.  All equipment is provided for your learning experience.  You will be learning techniques that align with your abilities, and take home all that you complete for reference.  If you wish to learn a specific technique please ask before the class date so I can be prepared for you.

Hello and welcome.  My name is Claire and I own Couchman Bespoke an ethical tailoring company based in London, UK

Learn to copy your favourite garment to get continued enjoyment out of a garment that fits like a dream.   In this class you will learn how to copy a garment on paper.  If we have time, you may get part way into cutting in cloth.  Cloth is unavailable through me, so please do bring your own.  Ability to complete this depends on the quickness in completing each stage and how detailed the garment is.  If you wish to sew up the garment i do recommend 3+ hours.
You can purchase such bundle hours through the Learn to make a garment bundle class, which are available for 3 hours plus.

This class is for all genders and ages.   Choose from 1 to 1 or group class.

Bring a readiness to learn and maybe a notebook.  You will enjoy a pleasant environment with a patient tutor near Canning Town station.  All equipment is provided for your learning experience.  You will be learning techniques that align with your abilities and take home all that you complete for reference.

Be aware that this session time is based on a fairly simple style.  For any garment with layers, corset style or a jacket, coat etc, double the time will be required to complete.  Book the 3 hour session.
You will copy the garment on paper.  For the opportunity to make it in cloth book the 6 hour session.  Again if the garment is more complicated with layers, corset style or a jacket, coat etc; please book for 12+ hours.

Hello and welcome.  My name is Claire and I own Couchman Bespoke an ethical tailoring company based in London, UK.

Learn to pattern make a basic block to fit your measurements.   This 2.5 hour session  will focus on making a paper block to confirm the size.  Depending on time left we may be able to add a sleeve block or trousers, you will need an extra hour at least.

This class is for all genders and ages.  A fit block is made to your base body shape for the type of garment you wish to make from it.  Choose from 1 to 1 or group class.

The fit block paper pattern can be manipulated into a shirt, dress or even a jacket for the more advance learner.  If you would like further tuition on this let me know and we can arrange the details.  Be aware that the more advance the garment the longer it will take to complete with tuition.  Bundle classes are available for 3 hours plus, under Make A Garment Bundle.

Learn to Pattern Make

You will start by heating the wax, blending the essential oil, setting up the wick, and finish by pouring the wax into the mould and making your own Venus candle.

You will also learn about fragrance families and what top, heart, and base notes are, and the aromatherapy benefits of the New Romanic blend ( rose geranium, chamomile, and sandalwood)

All materials will be posted to you.  Materials include eco-soy wax, female torso candle mould ( worth £15 and can be reused many times), essential oil blend, and wick.

The Venus candle workshop is on video and lasts for 50 minutes.

All raw materials are cruelty-free, ethically sourced, eco-friendly, and 100% natural.
