    This informative and intensive 6-week course is a hugely popular way for amateur bookbinders and book enthusiasts to learn the fundamental techniques of bookbinding.

    The course covers both single-section and multi-section binding and provides a full and detailed explanation of how to use key materials and hand tools.

    Or students who wish to further their studies in bookbinding, this course counts towards the City & Guilds Level I Bookbinding Course (Unit 118).

    Did you know?

    Bookbinding incorporates a variety of different methods including case binding, punch and bind, thermally activated binding, and stitched and sewn binding. However, it generally considered that hand binding remains the finest form of bookbinding.

    About your host, Shepherds Bookbinders

    Shepherds is one of the oldest bookbinding companies in England, specialising in fine binding, restoration and the conservation of books and manuscripts.

    Just a few minutes’ walk from Victoria station, shepherds at Rochester Road has been home to hand bookbinding for over twenty five years.

    The bindery employs craftsman with a broad range of traditional and modern skills: paper conservation, hand-sewn pages, gilt edges, fine leather covers and gold finishings.

    Workshops are open to the public and feature a variety of topics from box making to paper cutting.
