Stained Glass for Beginners - 2 Day Weekend

Jude is a dedicated and passionate stained glass artist.  She has a wealth of experience in designing and making architectural stained glass.  She has been practising professionally for 30 years, establishing her first independent stained glass studio in London in 1988. Since then she has created innumerable contemporary and period-influenced pieces in the distinctive, refreshing and vivid style that makes her stained glass truly special.

Jude is an experienced and inspiring tutor dedicated to bringing out the very best in every student.

Throughout every course and workshop you will have ongoing access to her extensive knowledge and experience through demonstrations, hands-on making, individual tuition and guidance. You will also get lots of useful insight into the materials, tools, processes and equipment used together with plenty of interesting bits of historical information.

Jude has taught and tutored students throughout her career, including teaching the advanced diploma City & Guilds Stained Glass Course.
Several of her former students and trainees have gone on to establish their own stained glass studios.

Pottery wheel taster - learn to throw like a pro from expert tutors, relaxing atmosphere with in the old zip factory hidden away from the crazy world.

Learn how to throw on the pottery wheel. Get creative and relax and find your inner peace through the art of throwing on the wheel.
Skills to be learn on the day will include hand building using coils and slabs then the pottery wheel throwing .

Our tutors will go over the basic steps to help you transform a piece of clay into a piece of art with the 2 to 3 hours class.
Your work will be Biscuit fired then glazed. Three weeks after the class, you will be able to collect your pieces.

We welcome you to have a taste of both at Maison S.Sommet!

This experienced and friendly team offers a warm, stylish and spacious pottery studio, the perfect place to unwind with clay. They are passionate ceramicists and will make sure you make the most of it.

You will be welcomed with a beautiful set-up of your own tools and your own desk space to create amazing handmade pottery. You'll then kick off the learning portion of the class with demonstrations on the secrets of sculpting.

Learn about coiling and all the tricks to wheel throwing in only a few hours. Your teacher will also have prepared clay coils for you to use so when it’s your turn to get your hands messy, you'll be confident to create your fun masterpiece!

Finally decorate your pieces with a selection of 8 colouring slip before you go!

At the end of the class, your beautiful pottery pieces will be taken away to be professionally glazed and fired, ready to collect after 3 weeks to display at home or give away as handmade gifts! (Optional delivery can be arranged on the day).

Pottery taster- Hand-building & Throwing on the potter wheel 

The classes are run by artists with over 20 years experience who have an amazing passion for their art forms. The artists will inspire you to explore your creativity in a relaxed learning environment. These classes cover the basics as well as more advanced techniques – dive in at whatever level suits you!

For drop-ins you create a mosaic tile to take home. The studio shelves are full of treasure for you to use. One of the best stocked mosaic studios in London. The range is unbelievable.
You will be introduced to the fundamentals of mosaic which can allow you to progress onto further projects, e.g a mosaic art piece, plant pot, mirror frame, table top - we have all the bases for you to choose.

Our studio is set in a gated community garden which makes it a quiet and relaxing environment.

This hands-on workshop will guide you around the best place to go in London for flowers and will give you a masterclass in floral design.

The day begins with a tour around London's main wholesale flower market. Your friendly teacher will guide you and give you all the insider tips you need to select amazing seasonal blooms and more.

Please note that we normally buy the flowers for the class in advance but you are able to purchase some yourself and we can incorporate them into the bouquet.

We meet at Door 2 of the New Covent Garden Flower Market - SW8 5BH. The nearest tube is the Northern Line's Battersea Power Station. Vauxhall is also nearby.

We then travel to our Shoreditch studio by tube (you are welcome to drive or take a taxi) where you will learn flower arranging and make a hand-tied bouquet using the spiralling method.

Our style is relaxed, wild and unique, but we also love to see your personal flair come out.

A floristry class is perfect for all occasions - a hen party, a Mother's Day gift experience or just a fun weekend activity.

Total class time includes travel from the market to our studio.

We begin with Colour ! * *(Allan will supply paper for this exercise) and we conclude the class with a painting of your own.  Allan's easy to follow colour technique will familiarise you with the painters palette, teaching you how to mix all those great colours before you test your skills with a small painting on your own canvas copied from an image/still life supplied. Two Easy Steps is all it takes on Allan's ONE DAY TWO PART PLAN   Designed to teach you the basics of oil painting and enable you to successfully develop your future as a painter, Allan focuses on the basic knowledge of oil paint and colour,  in the first part of this class and in the second puts your skills to test when you paint your own picture with ongoing support.

Part 1 : The Essentials 11.30am -1.00pm

Primary, complimentary secondary, tertiary colours Relationships between colour combinations, oppositional energising and harmonious warm and cool colours. Mix a custom palette and save money when purchasing your “start up” colour palette tube paints. You are now ready to tackle your first painting.

Break

Part 2 : Paint Your Picture 2.00pm -5.00pm.

Paint Materials and images provided. Please supply your own canvas and we will provide an image or bring your own image if you want to paint a favourite.

You will learn and have continuing support with - composition, canvas wash, blocking in, bringing your painting to completion. Finding and developing your own style, application techniques, impasto and/or thin glazing, colour saturation, blending, painting wet on wet, volume, perspective and much more.

Oil Painting Art Classes, Beginners, Refreshers, Saturday, Sunday, Weekday, Evening, Classes

The workshop is about learning the use of traditional Japanese hand tools, the process of inking wood blocks, printing on different types of handmade paper and developing a new understanding of various techniques in woodcut art. All of which enable you to make numerous fine art prints to take away at the end of the session.

Everyone will be provided with:
Sets of 5 traditional Japanese hand tools
1 x 4mm A4 Shina ply woodblock - slightly smaller block for evening session
Blocks can be cut and printed on both sides
3 x types of printmaking papers (including Japanese Hosho paper)
Water-based inks, pencils etc. - Pre-cut shapes and pattern blocks to use in compositions.
Tubes are provided for all prints to take away at the end of the session.

Intro - Cups of tea, coffee or soft drinks followed by some words
from Alex on his printmaking career.

Throughout the session,  Alex will give an overview of this ancient art form (woodcut is the oldest print process) and has a culturally rich history in China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil and most recently in Germany with the Expressionists. Contemporary artists such as  Grayson Perry, Tom Hammick, Christiane Baumgartner, Eileen Cooper and Rebecca Salter continue to inspire and push the medium into new and exciting places.

Stage 1 - Alex will cover the use of hand tools to design, draw and cut woodblocks and explore the process of hand printing using traditional Japanese barens (circular discs wrapped in bamboo) and rollers on three types of paper.

Stage 2 - Delve a little deeper, with examples on how to use multiple blocks, reduction-cutting techniques and the importance of block registration to create more complex multi colour prints.

Stage 3 - This a perfect opportunity to make multiply prints through editions, ending the final part of the session by experimenting with your favourite design or playing with various colours.

Stage 4 - Everyone's prints will be individually wrapped in sheets of tissue paper and rolled up into tubes for safe passage home.

One of Alternative London's expert street artist guides will take you on a graffiti and street art walking tour (1.30 - 1.45hrs) of East London where you'll see some of the World's finest street art by Banksy, ROA, Shepard Fairey, Jimmy C, Invader, Stik and many many more. Then, after a refreshment break it's back to the Alternative London for a 2.15hrs workshop to try it for yourself!

All welcome regardless of artistic ability as the Alternative London team will teach you spray can techniques and all you need to know to draw, cut and create your own single or multi layered stencil and build your own unique piece of street art.

Graffiti Workshop with Street Art Tour: Full Session

You can make up to 3 pieces using these skills, which will then be bisque-fired, dipped in our beautiful stoneware glazes, and fired again. The results are stunning! You receive your posted creations within a month, imagine the magical moment when you open your box to reveal the results!

You are welcome to come with your own ideas during the mindful 2.5 hours of making with the full support of an experienced ceramic tutor to help you realise your creative design ideas. The popular venue is our stunning Art4Space community arts centre, which is an inclusive, supportive, respectful, welcoming, safe space for everyone. Proceeds go towards our community art projects providing vulnerable individuals with mental health support in deprived areas in Lambeth, London.

From still life to life drawing, we like to play around, try different things and push your limits occasionally.

Expect people to be chatting, and supporting each other because our community is at the heart of the class and we welcome anyone who wants to join! Or if you want to sit and draw quietly, you can switch your camera off and we’ll respect your mindful time as you listen to the chitter chatter of our students.

What If I’m Shit At Drawing?
Then you should have signed up 10 minutes ago! Trust me, everyone can draw, you’ve just never been shown how. These classes are beginner friendly and super inclusive so you’ll feel right at home (even if you’re s**g a brick slightly about being the ‘newbie’).

Founded in 2019, ArtistAnd helps improve people's wellbeing by giving them the confidence to practice art and improve their creative skills. With an inclusive environment and atmosphere, ArtistAnd now teaches in corporate settings as well as classes online and in person for the public.

City of London - Acrylic Painting Kit

Learn to make your own rug with this beginner-friendly London tufting workshop!

Guided by expert teachers, you'll be guided to create a fluffy and cosy artwork that you can add to your home as soon as you get in! This is a relaxing and creative class, giving you the chance to learn some tufting skills and make your own rug to keep.

In this introductory tufting workshop, you'll learn the basics needed to create your own rug! You will be shown how to operate a cut-pile electric tufting gun and start tufting to create a personalised mini rug up to 40x40 cm.

All materials for the workshop are included and you'll have your rug to take home! You can decide whatever you would like to make into a rug - go for a cute, quirky or fun design, it's up to you!

Spirit of London - Artist's Gift Set

This workshop is very hands on and is suitable for people who have attended our beginners workshops  or have had previous experience working with clay and have a knowledge of the basics.

At the workshop we have:
3 electric kilns of varying sizes

6 electric pottery wheels

A slab roller and a clay extruder

A large selection of plaster moulds and modelling tools

A good selection of slips, underglazes and glazes

We use a range of clays – white and speckled buff throwing clays, White Earthstone hand building clay, buff clay, crank and terracotta.

A comprehensive selection of reference books with access to a printer and Wifi.

When you join the workshops you will have a space allocated on the shelf. We have a limited number of plastic storage boxes but please consider supplying your own to store your work in within your storage area.

Bundles – these will expire as follows:
6, 12 and 18 sessions are to be used within 3 months
24 & 32 sessions are to be used within 12 months

There is an additional charge for materials and firings according to weight and size. These prices are subject to change, suppliers have increased prices 3 times over the past year and electricity costs will be increasing threefold in the near future.

There will be an additional charge for clay according to the weight of the pieces you make (fired and glazed). Payment will be taken after the first firing.
