What happens in this class?

This 2.5 hour workshop will cover everything you need to know to get started with linocut as well as giving an introduction to the jigsaw technique: Put simply, a piece of lino is carved with the design you wish to print and then cut up into pieces that are to be printed different colours. The pieces are 'inked-up' (coated with ink) separately and then fitted back together like a jigsaw so that you can print two colours in one go.

FAQs
Is this course suitable for beginners?
Yes, you will begin by learning how to use linocut tools to create different patterns and textures.
Is this course suitable if I have some linocut experience already?
Yes- if you would like to learn the jigsaw technique for printing two colours in one go, this workshop is suitable for you. In the workshop you may wish to work with a greater degree of independence honing your skills but I will be on hand to give advice where it is needed. You may want to find out more about sharpening tools and I can show you how to do this as well as help with any queries you have about printmaking at home.
What precautions are in place to limit the spread of Covid-19?
The workshop will be limited to 6 people. Everyone taking part will be asked to show evidence of a negative lateral flow test before the workshop. A free lateral flow test will be sent to you by post before the workshop or provided on the day if you book just before the workshop. The workshop takes place in the back room of a shop. Customers passing through the shop and the workshop space will not have been tested but everyone that you will be closest to and spending most time with will have taken a test. Other precautions include provision of handwashing facilities and hand sanitizer, cleaning of surfaces before the workshop, air flow through the space and use of an air purifier.
