To give students an understanding of the visual grammar of mosaics by looking at both traditional and modern andamento and opus and understanding how to apply them to their own mosaics in terms of cutting and laying tesserae.
This is a largely theoretical class and consists of presentations and exercises on and with paper. No drawing skills are necessary. Participants will leave with an understanding of the grammar of mosaics and the effects that can be achieved.
