2 hour workshop
We will be working on vessel forms that have been thrown on the wheel and dried to a leather-hard state ready for decoration. (Existing students are welcome to work on their own items if they wish.)
The class will be spent learning and experimenting with different methods for expressing pattern and image upon the clay surface, including: sgraffito, stencils, inlay, and printing, as well as methods for creating texture. We will be using a range of slips, underglazes and oxides to produce vibrant results on finished pieces that will then be glazed and fired. Students will be given time to explore and develop their ideas in a relaxed and encouraging environment of up to five people maximum.

About your host, Studio1Ceramics
Studio1Ceramics is a workshop in the heart of Wood Green within Blue House Yard which is located a few minutes walk from Wood Green Station.
The classes are taught by Martha Todd RCA MA who has been a practicing ceramic artist and sculptor for 13 years and is currently researching for a PhD based on figurative sculpture in contemporary art.
The studio is a beautiful bright space in which Martha teaches a series of clay workshops for all levels and abilities. The classes are small in size, ensuring that there is plenty of support for individual students.
Martha teaches hand-building techniques in clay as well as surface decoration, glazing, mould-making as well as specialist classes.
Prices include all materials and firings (which will include an initial bisque firing and a glaze firing).
Learners are encouraged to bring their own inspiration for surface pattern and will be provided with plenty of support in order to adapt the techniques learned in class to suit their design ideas.
