FAQs
Can I use the pottery wheels in this class?
This is a predominantly HAND-BUILDING session. This means coiling, pinching, slab building & use of our moulds . We have created a ticket option to rent one of our 4 electric wheels but this is ONLY FOR THOSE WITH PRIOR EXPERIENCE and are happy to work independently (Such as students who have completed our Beginner Wheel Throwing Course). Our teacher on duty for the Drop-in Session will not be trained in wheel throwing and will only assist you with finding the materials you need and general running of the session.
What Should I Wear?
While the majority of clay can easily be washed out of your clothing, working with terracotta and deeper colours can leave stains. Please come dressed in clothing you do not mind getting dirty and can easily be put through the washing machine. We will provide each maker with an apron for their use during the session.
What Should I bring?
Each class will be fully stocked with all the materials and tools needed. All clay, glazes and firings are included within the cost of the course.
Will there be food provided?
We will provide a range of teas and coffees and some biscuits. If you would like some a more substantial meal we are conveniently located near Mercato Metropolitano and Borough Market where you can find a range of local restaurants and delis.
What are the COVID precautions?
We will always be in keeping with the government guidelines for Schools and Education. Our teachers are tested regularly. If you are feeling unwell please do not come in to the session.
Do you have disability access?
Our studio is fully wheelchair accessible. If you have any special needs or requirements please let us know in advance and we will try and accommodate you as best as possible.

Lovely, relaxing space to try out pottery for the first time! There were a couple of more experienced people in there with us who got all the guidance they wanted too :) Shout out to Carlaina (may have spelt her name wrong so sorry if so) for guiding us through it. Looking forward to collecting my work!
Aoife Brown - 29 June 2023
It was really great I didn’t have to bring anything like clay or tools and the lady showed me new clay techniques. Was definitely worth my money
Monica Mota - 30 May 2023
Very welcoming teachers and staff who are very patient with complete beginners and deliver bespoke lessons and guidance in very small classes. Lots of freedom on what to make, plenty of materials, tools and types of clay available and very central location. Cannot wait to book my next class!
Ben Houghton - 21 May 2023
Loved it. The tutor was super friendly and helpful. I made a slab constructed mug and painted it. Looking forward to picking it up in a week after it is glazed and put in the kiln. Highly recommend.

I recently had the pleasure of attending a Pottery Drop-in Session at Decima Clay Studio after missing one of the classes in their wheel throwing course. The experience was, as always, a delightful one, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts. The teacher at Decima Clay Studio is fantastic. Their guidance and expertise created a warm and encouraging atmosphere, perfect for honing one's pottery skills. They were attentive to every student's needs, offering invaluable advice and patiently helping us to improve our techniques. It's rare to find an instructor who not only has a wealth of knowledge but is also so committed to their students' success. The structure of the drop-in session was well-organised and easy to follow. The wheel rental process was seamless, and I was quickly set up to work on my pottery piece. The session was designed to accommodate students at various skill levels, so I never felt out of place or overwhelmed. The pacing was just right, allowing ample time to practice and learn while also maintaining a sense of progression.

This session was brilliant. Unu was really friendly and knowledgeable, making us feel at ease and helping us with our ideas. She made it fun as well as a chance to learn. It didn’t matter that we each had completely different ceramics experience, we all got a lot out of the class and I can’t wait to collect my pieces.
Omer Salem - 8 April 2023
Instructor was very nice and helpful! Good vibes!

Decima Clay is a very special studio. I recently did a course and I will be going back for drop in sessions as it is exactly the skills based learning I want. Taught by inspiring Artists that are genuinely interested in helping me reach the goals I want to in my art practice! A great find!
Anastasia Birchenko - 12 March 2023

Really fun class. The theory session before starting helped frame how and what to make. I’m a beginner and would definitely recommend!
Julia Tan - 16 February 2023
Very good initiation class for pottery beginners, many thanks! :-)
Cordelia Lam - 24 January 2023
Hello- I did the 17 December drop in class and left my work (a large mug with Cordelia’s Cup engraved in the base) for kiln firing. I went back to the Elephant studio last week to check if it was ready as I still hadn’t received an email, and was told it wasn’t ready yet. Please can I check if this is now ready for me to pick up?
Olivia Rosenstrom - 16 January 2023
I highly recommend this pottery taster - my friend and I had so much fun and learned a lot in the process. The studio was welcoming and had great facilities. Annette Lindenberg was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. I am so tempted to attend the foundation course with decima.

This is the second time I've gone to the drop in session at Decima. The tutors are always very knowledgeable and available to provide help when you need it. It's always a delight to join workshops at Decima.
Elle Kindler - 14 November 2022
Myself and my two friends did a lesson and no one else joined which was great as meant we got the instructors help more - she was brilliant, really welcoming, clear and super impressive. She taught us some of the basics but really helped us to create what we had in mind. Loved it and can't to do it again!
Caroline - 12 November 2022

Zeynep Dogan - 17 October 2022
Great for beginners! Teacher was very sweet and helpful, answering any questions or concerns when building with the clay. The team is also very sweet and responsive via email to book further sessions! Looking forward to going back.
Kiara Assaraf - 12 October 2022
I visited for a taster/drop off session. I really enjoyed it. Especially since you can make as many pieces you like and get them are fired. The teacher in the session was also very helpful and guided me through the pieces I wanted to make. They have a lot of material available and very beautiful clay. I’ll definitely come back.
Brenda Gabriel - 26 June 2022

Maria Gkotsi - 29 May 2022
Lovely experience from beginning to end! Will be going back!
Gienny - 29 May 2022
I had an amazing Saturday afternoon at the Taster session. Irina taught us some basic techniques of working with clay and was very supportive and patient throughout the lesson. I got a chance to make a cup which was later fired and I picked it up from the studio. I found working with clay really relaxing and the overall experience at Decima Clay was just excellent: beautiful and cosy studio, and my group mates were lovely! Looking forward to be back at the studio for the beginner course or further sessions! ♥️
Monica McCall - 23 May 2022
Hands down best clay experience! Inez was extremely knowledgable and so helpful. She gave us an intro on how to do some basic techniques, let us chose our own clay and then helped us build and perfect our creations. This class is great because if you're a beginner they can give you lots of guidance but if you're advanced you basically get free range to let your imagination come to life. It was such a relaxed setting, and the little studio dog was the highlight of the experience! There's also snacks and refreshments and location is super central. Booking another session with Decima asap! Thanks Irina and Ines!
