Amazing class! Having not done any painting since school, Harriet is really great at showing you where to start and encouraging you to try out different techniques. A really relaxing way to end the day. We will definitely be back!

Enjoyed the class which taught me basic watercolour techniques to go away and try on my own, and hopefully improve. Relaxed and clear teaching. A good way to end the day and try something different.

This was a great session. Having a hours of Harriet's time was so valuable. She clearly explained the methods and techniques she was talking about along with practical demonstrations. She tailored the session to my needs (and ability!!). I really really enjoyed it! Would definitely recommend / have already to friends and family! Thanks!!

Your Teacher

Harriet Gillett is a professional artist working across a variety of mediums. Blurring the line between abstraction and figuration, observation and memory, the ideas for her colourful and expressive works are rooted in a love of drawing from life.

In her lessons she teaches the techniques she has developed to really help free yourself up when making art. Elements of chance, and accident plays a big part in her own work so she enjoys teaching techniques to guide your intuition, encouraging guests to tap into the expressive potential mark-making to capture the emotion and character of a subject, and…

We booked Harriet to teach a whole bunch of us an online class (we'd organised our own materials) over Zoom. Everyone knew each other and can be quite loud so we were worried we might overwhelm Harriet but she was relaxed, friendly and absolutely went with the flow while guiding us through some new skills. We produced some lovely art (well some of us anyway) and are planning another class with her soon!

I went to an in-person art class run by Harriet earlier this year and it was brilliant! I hadn’t done art since school, so wasn’t sure it would be my thing, but with her help I actually did a painting that I really love and now have up on my wall! Throughout the session she was really attentive and gave loads of good pointers. Our group all really enjoyed it, and I’ve even bought some paints and done more painting since!

Prior to attending Harriet’s class painting was to me synonymous with acute anxiety, effectuating traumatic memories of stress-induced tears and dictatorial art teachers. I found it above all a frustrating activity for which I could boast no discernible talent. To say I was reluctant to go to try painting again is a monumental understatement. However, my experience under Harriet’s coaching was unlike any other in my lifetime. Effortlessly inspiring confidence and clarity of mind, Harriet helped me to overcome my unease with the paintbrush and to truly enjoy expressing myself! More impressive still, I found her ardour and her therapeutic approach to art highly contagious. Whilst I admit you are unlikely to see my paintings framed in gold at the Tate any time in the near future, you may well nonetheless see me at Harriet’s next mindful art session, painting zealously with more enthusiasm than with skill.

Harriet was an amazing instructor! I was actually a but nervous and self conscious about painting but she imbued me with confidence, and more than anything, just encouraged me to have fun, which I did! Someone she managed to jovially watch over everyone in our class as well as give one to one advice when we needed it. I couldn't recommend her more highly.
