During the last decade of his life, when Henri Matisse was no longer able to stand or use his hands with the dexterity to which he was accustomed, he started to 'draw with scissors'. His now famous cut-outs are works of wide-ranging color and complexity where he used scissors to transform paint and paper into a world of plants, animals, figures, and shapes.
