Daytime

After a quick introduction to the machines I built and robots I work with, you will choose the machine and technique to draw your own artworks. Whether you want to draw figurative or abstract, I will walk you through the bespoke processes I have created to use the machines as creative tools, and together we will bring your ideas to life. While composing your artwork with the machine, you will also get a chance to experience other digital art forms such as painting in virtual reality, creating pattern in real-time through generative art as well as experiencing other robots such as Sphero, Rovio and even a robotic arm. Finally, I will also give you up-to-date information on new media art that can be currently be seen in London.

Drawing with Robots and Machines by Digital Craft People - art in London

About your host, Digital Craft People

At Digital Craft People, we are passionate about creativity through the use of technology.

Damien Borowik, founder artist at Digital Craft People, will be running the workshop at his South East London studio. Whether prototyping with 3D printing, drawing with machines and robots, creating exquisite patterns purely with code, or designing experiences in virtual reality, Damien is exploring all avenues of digital arts in his practice, which he is looking forward to share with you.

His art studio is situated in a vibrant mews in Penge (SE20), near Crystal Palace and Beckenham. The studio is full of technological wonders and has often been referred to a treasure cave or playground for geeks (Raspberry Pis, Arduinos, Sensors, Motors, Oculus Rifts, HTC Vive, Rovio, Robotic arm, Sphero, Monomes, etc...)

Damien Borowik is a keen new media creative who has been breathing digital art and interactive design for the past 20 years. He currently teaches creative coding at Central Saint Martins (UAL) where he is also part of the Digital Maker Collective. Damien has also studied a Master of Arts in Computational Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London. He recently founded Digital Craft People to spread his knowledge and run workshops at various locations.

His work is exhibited worldwide. It has been seen on the BBC and has been commissioned by Southbank Centre, Samsung and Christian Dior Couture, and is now part of the Victoria & Albert Museum permanent collection.

Upcoming workshops will take place at the Tate Modern early March 2018, Somerset House in April and again at the Victoria & Albert museum this summer.
