2 hour workshop
Maiden Aunt evenings are a world away from the classes you did at school. You're encouraged to talk to each other, doodle, daydream and even enjoy a drink (no pranks on the teacher though, please). Mistakes are embraced as part of the creative process and there's no such thing as a fail. We're all about creating a social experience so you get extra marks for swapping hints and tips, and telling each other how awesome the things they are making are. We love it when people continue the crafter party on socials and when there's some good chat between the different groups.
We curate talented designers to offer you trend led accessories that you can make yourself. This is a brilliant way to spend an evening with friends making something useful, unique and joyful!
We want people to experience the joy of making things even when they don't think of themselves as creative. We love it when people go home and keep making so we offer crafts that are suitable for all levels and that don't require any special skills, tools or materials. You will also be provided with written instructions, templates and a list of our suppliers.
AUGUST Wooden jewellery making at Make More Fest
Drop in for a mini crafter party led by Maiden Aunt where you’ll create a bold statement necklace using laser cut wood pendants. Learn how to decoupage, embellish with metallic leaf and make your own swishing tassels. Perfect for when more is more and you want to elevate your look (read: always). This is a lite version of our usual crafter parties and will be offered free of charge. Please book via the Make More Fest listing.
SEPTEMBER Quirky Collage (in collaboration with Glue Club)
You will be guided through the creative process including advice on how to integrate images, colours and play with scale. Glue Club is the brainchild of South London artist Matthew Kay, who uses materials from vintage magazines to scraps of paper he finds on the street to create witty collages. You will choose from a selection of materials that Glue Club has specially curated along with a theme. After starting with some quick experiments in collage, you will develop your final piece. You will get everything you need including a frame for your work of art.
OCTOBER Brush lettering and watercolour illustration Think you handwriting is too messy to create beautiful lettering? I challenge you to try using super handy brush pens. Learn the basics of lettering and hot to create gorgeous watercolour effect florals and botanicals while enjoying a glass of fizz. Take home your own brush pen and within no time you'll be making oh-so stylish gift tags, cards and labels. NOVEMBER Crochet a Chunky Scarf Learn the basics of crochet to create a wonderfully soft, cosy and warm scarf in neutral colours. In this two hour session, you will learn the basics of crochet including how to create a slip knot and basic stitches. You will be shown how to finish off your work to ensure a neat finish. You will also be provided with your own crochet hook to take home.
DECEMBER Graffiti embroidery Here's something subversive for you. Inspired by the textile artist Richard Saja who embellishes historic toile patterns, you will learn how to create an iron-on patch. Take an inoffensive piece of chintz and punk up that delightful picnic scene with bright mohawks, tatts and sunglasses. Or give that country peasant drawing water from the well a pink mohican and black boots. Add your patch to give an irreverent edge to a cushion, a denim jacket or your backpack. Now who said needlecraft was antifeminist?
We ensure quality. If your class doesn't reach your expectations, we'll give your money back.
This is a Flexitime class, which means the teacher can run this class around your schedule.
Time & Location

About your host, Maiden Aunt
Maiden Aunt is dedicated to making the mindfulness and delight of craft accessible to all. We curate the best designs allowing you to make trend-led fashion and home accessories that are personal, unique and joyful.
Maiden Aunt is creating a collective experience in person and over social media to share our crafty discoveries as widely as possible. We want to create a positive space for making and socialising.
Each month, we pick one item and craft and work with independent designers to develop workshops in that month that will be suitable for all abilities. If you can’t make it or want to organise your own event, there will also be a corresponding all you need kit. We can then continue the conversation by sharing pictures and stories of our own versions of the make.
You benefit from fresh, creative ideas. Independent designers and businesses benefit from showcasing to customers in a different context.
If you have any questions, please contact us using the ‘contact host’ button on the website page.
As with all Maiden Aunt workshops, everything you need will be provided. You will just need to turn up. Refreshments are not included unless specified.
