What happens in this class?

A Papershades workshop is the perfect place to let your imagination run riot and enjoy exploring the potential of paper. All the materials are provided along with expert guidance. Everyone can rummage through a vast supply of paper - tissue, wrapping, packaging, decoration - and create a completely original design within a template. When it's ready, this template will be printed onto five sheets of translucent Papershades paper which will then be trimmed and assembled. Things to remember

No need to bring anything but if you do have some wrapping paper, photos, sketches or packaging which you're particularly fond of, do bring it along and you can incorporate your own material into the design.

I was really intrigued about making a papershade and Ros, our teacher, was really good at explaining the different techniques and how to create unique patterns. What I particularly loved was being able to keep my template so that I can go back and make some more. Ros was friendly and made the whole session incredibly social. I love my lamp, which turned out to be much better than I thought it would, as I'm not naturally arty. Worth doing.

Ros Freeborn is a brilliant artist and her concept for helping others to create unique paper lampshades is so unique. On the day I was helped to design and construct a shade that looks beautiful in my home and is so much nicer than many of the shades available on the market. It was fun, creative and Ros gave an amazing talk on how she came up with the idea and showed us loads of different designs by past workshoppers. I didn't know anyone else on the workshop but we all made friends, chatted while we worked and enjoyed Ros' yummy cakes. Highly recommended to others!
