    About this class

The ‘log cabin’ design is well-known in the quilting world as a fun and easy design for quilting beginners. In this West Hampstead class, you’ll step outside the box by turning the traditional log cabin design into a beautifully curved quilt block. You will need some prior sewing machine experience to keep up in this class.

    Did you know?

This popular quilt design is named after the ‘log cabin’ for a reason. The design is meant to represent log cabins on the American prairies, with red centre squares for the hearth, light values on one side for the sunny part of the house, and dark values on the other for the shaded part of the house. Many variations on the traditional pattern now exist, but the cosy feeling the log cabin design evokes still rings true!

    In this class

In this class, you’ll first learn how to follow a foundation paper piecing pattern, allowing you to sew precise shapes. Working only with straight strips and straight line sewing, you’ll soon see curves amazingly appear in your patchwork by carefully following this technique! All the pieces will eventually come together in the form of a beautiful quilt block.

    Now you can

    • Know the magic art of turning straight lines into curves
    • Master the ‘log cabin’ block for use in your future quilting projects
    • Create gorgeous cushion covers and quilt tops to keep you and your friends warm this winter

    Bring

Students are asked to bring or buy their own fabric for this class (available from the Village Haberdashery) - you'll need 1/2 metre each of two contrasting quilt fabrics for a lap-size quilt. Sewing machines and other tools are provided. At the end, you’ll walk away with your own quilt block that can be turned into a cushion cover, or form the basis for a quilt top.

    Save your spot

Spots in this class are limited to eight people only, so block it in your diary now!
