What happens in this class?

What is Weaving? Weaving is widely acknowledged as one of the most ancient forms of craft. It is the process of interlacing one set of varied horizontal yarns with another set of fixed vertical yarns, at a right angle, to create cloth.

The possibilities are truly endless, with a countless range of looms, yarns, structures, colours and techniques to choose from, no two cloths are ever the same!

But first, newcomers must learn the basic principles to begin weaving.

The 2 Day Class Compared to the similar 1 Day Class, this class is a more relaxed yet still thorough introduction…

The ladies at Illae were great teachers, I highly recommend the 2 day workshop!

The course was brilliant; there was only two of us so we had help at every moment. Everything was explained carefully and patiently. Loads of helpful information sheets were provided to take away. The teacher was very knowledgeable in all areas. It was a lovely little space to work in and the hospitality of cakes and drinks was also very nicely considered. I would highly recommend this course, I could definitely go away and set up a learn and continue weaving on my own after having done it.

Juliet is a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher! I loved that the class was only two people, because this lets the class be very focused. The class is in a beautiful studio, surrounded by looms and yarns. I learned so much in two days, and I want to keep weaving now! I will definitely do another class here, and I highly recommend it.

HI really enjoyed this workshop. It was a joy to get to know Juliet who runs Illae with her business partner. I found the intimate and relaxed atmosphere really conducive to learning the techniques. Juliet was a competent & skilful tutor, careful to study our individual needs and supportive throughout. She prepared context and history for us to have a glance through and offered to send us that info in a digitised version via email. Mostly I found this a fun and relaxed atmosphere! I came away with a beautiful piece of cloth that I am so proud of, as well as a really thorough intro to a new skill I hope I can study more. This is a class suitable for all ages (kids too), open, friendly and not pretentious. If you want to learn a bit more about textiles, crafts, the industry or just have a play on a loom with some mad yarns and amazing fibres - go for it!
