Floristry class hosted by Jar and Fern
1 hour workshop
Mercato Metropolitano, SE1
If you dream of having your own little garden but lack the space to do so, then we might have the solution for you. Terrariums are a great way of delving into the world of gardening in miniature form - come learn how to make your own in this fun and hands-on workshop, suitable for all ages and levels.
A man named Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward is often credited with inventing the terrarium. Back in the early 1800s, he placed an insect chrysalis along with some mould inside a glass bottle, with the aim of watching the insect emerge from the chrysalis. Instead, he observed seedlings and sprouts blooming from the bottle. Nathaniel came to the conclusion that the glass bottle created a protected sealed environment in which plants could thrive. And thus, the science of terrariums was born!
