An age old technique which dates as far back as the Middle Ages, gold work is steeped in tradition, and has predominatly been used as means to portray power wealth and status. A form of hand embroidery whereby the embroiderer is able to harness precious metals such as gold and silver in the form of wire to embellish the lavish court dress of kings and queens, adorn copes, vestments and chausables for the church as well as many other uses, it is a technique which has also been successfully translated into contemporary contexts such as fashion.
