2 hour workshop
In this calm and relaxed class, Marie will guide you through a step by step process to create a colour wheel from just three primary colours. You will understand how colours can be mixed to create other colours, and the infinite possibilities that can emerge from this process. We will also look at colour theory, the work of key artists who use colour in their work, and in the longer class (3 hours), we will practice designs and colour combinations to express mood and taste.
Marie's upbringing was dominated by colour. With a father who was a colour designer, she has bathed in colour since childhood, and now embraces colour and its wonderful power in her own painting every day.
We will use acrylic paint and brushes for this class (all materials provided).
Note that this class is also offered as the second session of a three week course for a discounted price. Look for Drawing and Painting Course in the listing.

About your host, Marie Lenclos
Marie is a French painter and educator who lives and works in South-East London. She came to London in the 90s to study art at Camberwell College of Art, and never left. London is her home, her inspiration, her community.
Marie started painting at thirteen and painted regularly through her twenties. But then life took over and she stopped painting for twenty years. In that time she had two children, created a video production company, and ran a film club for kids at her local cinema. She also did a PGCE in adult learning and has been teaching creative subjects (stop-motion animation, digital projects, photography and art) in community settings for the last ten years.
The urge to paint came back in 2015, after a summer in Brittany playing around with oils and brushes. She now paints everyday from her studio in Loughborough Junction and is building a growing recognition in and out London. She regularly shows and sells her paintings.
Teaching art is a capital aspect of Marie's creative life. Having come back to her own practice so long after her formative years, Marie has a passion for nurturing the transformative experience of art in others. She excels in creating a generous and friendly climate where students are given time and space to really observe, slow down and experience the joy of making pictures . Her students are encouraged to pause and bring a moment of calm into their busy lives. Most report a greater sense of wellbeing and confidence after a class: Marie believes that this is because connections are made, between oneself and the world around us, between fellow students, between internal and external life.
All materials and equipment will be provided as part of the class. You may want to bring an A3 sized folder or stiff bag to carry your artwork away after the class. Bring an apron if you want to protect your clothes.
