2 hour class
Our fun classes explore the essentials of drawing in a friendly atmosphere, with lots of different approaches. No matter your style or your level, you will be helped to develop your skills and express your ideas with understanding and confidence. Each class is a guided activity, complete beginners will be fine, and seasoned drawers will learn new techniques. Everybody enjoys the surprises and rewards of drawing all kinds of different objects, and watching their ability steadily improve while their results get better and better.
Each month the classes concentrate on a different theme or aspect of drawing. We run a three day workshop at the beginning of the month, where the topic is covered extensively. Then through the month, we run five more classes where we repeat each of the topics to consolidate the learning.
Each class stands alone but together they provide everything you need. You can book as few or as many classes as you can manage - each one will improve your understanding and your results. There are discounts for block booking: £25/class, three for £60, or five for £95
JULY: Fundamental Structure of Objects in Space - We will look at: simple ways to ensure you incorporate the basic principles of perspective into your drawings of objects in space; how to line up the different planes of an object to ensure symmetry and structural coherency; and how to treat tonal structure to depict the difference planes.
AUGUST: Drawing Cloth - We will look at: the fundamental principles of where and how folds are created; how to work from the big forms to the smaller details; how to create volume with shading over the whole form, as well as in the individual folds; how to use tonal structure to indicate the texture of the cloth.
SEPTEMBER: Preparation for Life Drawing - A lot of people arrive at life drawing classes not quite sure what to do or how to approach the task of drawing the model. With these preparatory classes we will use photographic images of life models and cover: how to approach quick poses; which parts of the anatomy to look out for on the body to help line things up correctly; and how to use tonal structure to get volume on different parts of the body.
