What happens in this class?

Traditional kintsugi (‘gold joining’) is an ancient Japanese repair technique which uses lacquer (urushi) dusted with powdered precious metals to restore broken ceramic pieces. The process illustrates the wabi-sabi philosophy of finding beauty in the flawed or imperfect. Rather than hiding flaws, kintsugi highlights them to show the object’s history.

During this two and a half hour workshop, your tutor will guide you through every stage of the process of fixing a broken ceramic item using a micro metal mix with ureshi resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution, along with a special…

Kintsugi workshop was very meditative in its nature. The instructor was very patient and open to ideas. She gave us clear instructions and made sure the students had artistic autonomy. It was a very pleasant experience overall, I felt very relaxed after the workshop.
