2. Knitting Machine Workshop - All Levels
Jan/Feb dates are currently reduced to £53 All materials are provided, and you will walk away having learnt some valuable skills you can put to use in your own time and for your own creations. The workshops are delivered by an all-round knitwear professional who has worked at the highest levels in design, technical development, consultancy, and teaching. She specialises in hand, domestic and industrial knitting and teaches all aspects of these skills. Her own designs have featured in both British and Italian Vogue, as well as i-D magazine. Below are more details on the types of skills to be taught: Beginners You’ll gain an understanding of how the machine works and what it can do, with plenty of time to practice and experiment. You will learn the following techniques: Casting On Stripes Increasing & Decreasing (Changing The Width Of The Knitted Fabric) Lace Holes Ladders Casting Off You’ll create a range of samples to take away and learn from. Also, depending on your progress, you will be given the opportunity to knit yourself a scarf at the end lesson. Intermediates We will cover a range of techniques including: Fair Isle/Jacquard (Patterns) Using punchcard jacquard patterns Distorting and being creative with patterns Freehand patterns Tuck & Cabling (3D knit structures) Using punchcard tuck patterns Distorting Tuck patterns Cabling (single bed) Woven Knits (Weaving in and E-Wrapping) Using punchcard weaving patterns Experimental weaving with different yarns and materials Learning the principals of E-Wrapping Using punchcard E-Wrapping patterns Ribbing Attachment (double bed) Advanced Advanced workshops will cover a number of higher-level knitting techniques with plenty of time to practice and experiment. We will cover a range of techniques including: Lace Carriage – punchcard lace patterns Intarsia Carriage – planning and following a design Holding/Short Row Knitting – knitting frills, spikes and organic shapes In each workshop you will create a range of samples to take away with you and learn from. NB: The machines used for all classes will be Brother knitting machines. All equipment and yarns will be provided, along with technical notes with instructions to go with your class.
