What you will do
2 hour workshop
Make a beautiful stained glass hanging decoration to brighten your home or garden or give as a personalised gift. Stained glass is an inspiring ancient craft and this brief workshop will give a good hands-on taster of working with the material using the copper-foil technique made famous by Tiffany.
Among many new skills, you'll learn to safely cut glass, design your hanger and select from a huge range of exciting coloured and textured glasses. Aimee will then teach the copper-foil technique of joining the pieces together (as opposed to the leaded technique which is more suitable for architectural stained glass). Finally, you'll solder the hanger together and polish it up to a beautiful glassy shine, ready to display.
You'll experience working in a real stained glass studio with lots of expert advice and bespoke help from Aimee, whether you want to make a traditional hanger or something more experimental. And of course, the classes are informal and fun!
Tea, coffee and snacks are provided throughout the session, alongside all the materials you'll need to make your artwork.

About your host, Aimee McCulloch Stained Glass
After a degree in Illustration, Aimee became fascinated by the beauty of stained glass during an internship with a glass studio in Glasgow. Learning the traditional skills of stained glass (which have remained much the same for hundreds of years), Aimee then completed an MA in Glass Design, and now runs her own stained glass studio in London, making contemporary stained glass panels, windows and sculptures.
Glass is an amazing material, and stained glass craft can result in extraordinary designs, from the traditional to the contemporary and from gallery artworks to beautiful additions to the home. The dazzling effects of colour and light are genuinely exciting to work with.
Aimee really enjoys teaching, and recently demonstrated her skills for an upcoming BBC TV series on craft and making. Class numbers are deliberately kept small, so that everyone can benefit from bespoke teaching and advice and can leave with real stained glass skills. And of course, the classes are fun! The studio is contemporary and creative, and the emphasis is on having an enjoyable day learning something completely unique!
All materials (glass, copper foil, soldering equipment, cutting tools) are included, and safety equipment is provided. And if you're short of inspiration, there are plenty of example designs to get you going with your own! Hot drinks and snacks are provided. As you'll be using tools and craft-working, please wear comfortable clothes which you don't mind getting a little art-messy! Closed-toe shoes must be worn. Please also bear in mind that, as we are working with glass, it is possible that you'll end up with some small finger cuts! If needed, I will provide plasters and antiseptic!
