7 hour workshop
Join studio artist Matt Young for a two day introduction to stone lithography. Learn about how to grain a stone, how to make a drawing using greasy drawing materials and how to process the stone ready for printing. Participants will draw on half a stone each, working in pairs on the shared stones to help each other to understand this complex but very rewarding printmaking process. You will take at least one print of your image and it will be possible arrange to come back to the studio afterwards to continue to print if you would like to, either on one of our Open Access Workshop sessions or the next Stone Lithography Course.
This is a very small class, so you will benefit from a lot of one-to-one help and will work closely with the other participants.

About your host, Slaughterhaus Print Studio
Slaughterhaus Print Studio is a professional, friendly printing studio (despite the name!). They love all things print, and will surprise you with what is possible in this fantastic medium. Led by studio founder Michelle Avison, a great team of practising artist tutors share their skills in techniques such as linocut, etching and stone lithography, and a lot more besides- classes are suitable for beginners and more experienced printmakers looking to refresh and add to their skills. Class numbers are small, and the teaching is supportive and personalised - the team will challenge and help you experiment and find your creative mojo.
Paper and inks are included. You will be grinding a litho stone outside- this involves some lifting and physical activity. Please wear stout shoes or boots and bring a waterproof. Tea and coffee provided. It is probably a good idea to bring a packed lunch as the nearest cafe/ shops are 10-15 minutes away. We have a fridge and a microwave for reheating food.
