Two session course
You will look at and discuss a range of print examples to understand what etchings look like. On the first day you will learn how to prepare, draw, etch and print an etching plate with both hard and soft ground resists. Then on the second day you will experiment with ways of introducing texture and tone into the plate, including methods using sandpaper, and spray paint aquatint to make multi-layered images.
You will be encouraged to take a proof at every stage to record the process of making the plate and how layers of different techniques can alter the whole image. You can experiment with printing in colour as well as black and white. At the end of the course you will have prints taken at every stage of the process and a basic understanding of etching and ways of markmaking.
Our classes are limited in size- you will get good support and lots of help throughout the course.
