4 hour workshop
On arrival Georgie will make you a warming tea and then you'll get stuck into starting your canvas, first applying layers of texture. The theme is abstract landscapes but if you have another idea in mind, that’s fine. Just bring an image for inspiration and Georgie will get you set up. If you prefer more structure, she can provide images for inspiration or guide you in creating a work from your imagination. You’re also welcome to pick one of her paintings on the walls to base yours on and Georgie can talk you through how she did it.
You will have an hour or so break for a hearty lunch cooked by a neighbour and Hawksmoor chef Alice Wilson. She will bring a hamper full of warm sausage rolls and salads and the like for the group to feast on. After lunch we can wander round the farm and see the animals.
In the afternoon you’ll continue working on the paintings, adding more textures and then layers of colour, and finally working over all this in more detail with paint or pastels.
Then it's goodbye and you can take your paintings home with you. All in all a wholesome, unusual and creative way to spend your day!

About your host, Georgie Mason Studio
Georgie is an abstract landscape/seascape painter working from her studio on Stepney City Farm in East London.
She has been teaching art classes for years, from home in Suffolk, then from Stoke Newington Old Church and at Artbox charity in London. Since moving to the city farm she has held landscape painting classes and 'Paint with Georgie' Saturday classes from her studio. The set-up is ideal, with glass double doors looking out onto the farm, animals all around, and neighboured by a spoon-carver and a ceramicist. It's a wholesome and creative environment, physically close but atmospherically very far from the hustle and bustle of the city. The classes are relaxed and Georgie offers guidance and structure but also allows for freedom of expression and if people want to experiment or do it their way, they're more then welcome!
In her own work, Georgie is inspired by the natural world, having been brought up in the Suffolk countryside. She uses a variety of materials to build texture including polyfilla and mud form the farm. Since graduating from a degree in English Literature and History of Art at Nottingham University in 2014, she has had work accepted into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Affordable Art Fairs and had solo shows at Boston Consulting Group, Palm Tree Gallery and Lavenham Hall Gallery. She’s had work shortlisted for the NEAC Annual Exhibition and NOA Prize and was winner of the Harry Walker Prize at the BSA Annual Exhibition. Her work is held in the private collection of the Museum of Goa in India and in boutique hotels across the UK.

You might want to bring in some photos to work from, a cut-out from a magazine or just work from imagination. Georgwill help you get set up and give you some ideas about how to go about how to create the perfect painting, with particular focus on texture and acrylic painting techniques. If you have no idea what you want to do, Georgie will give you ideas & inspiration when you arrive. Materials: There are various different canvases and boards for you to work on and the studio is equipped with pencils, acrylic paints, pastels, charcoal, graphite, watercolours and lots of texture building materials. If you want to use oils it will cost you an extra £5 (please bring cash), or if you want to work on a particular sized canvas please let me know at least 3 working days in advance so it can be ordered in!
