FAQs
Do I need to be able to draw?
In short no, but to expand slightly, everyone **can** draw, but most people don't practice enough to become more competent. As with musical instruments if you don't practice you won't be able to make the noise you want or have the notes in the right order! I'll be on hand all through the workshop to guide, teach and help you.
Will I need to bring materials?
All paper and card will be provided. There will also be round stencils, colour pencils and black drawing pens. If you'd like to bring any of your own materials then feel free to.
What will I need to bring with me in terms of reference.
You'll receive an email a couple of weeks before the workshop with details about this.
Will there be food?
We will have some home made cakes available. As these are home made I can't guarantee we'll have a variety of options for those with specific dietary requirements and I'm afraid we can not state that they will be free of any allergens like nuts or dairy etc. You will need to bring your own lunch as there isn't a shop or café near to the studio. There are supermarkets in Rothesay where you could grab something before coming to the workshop though.
I'm a professional artist, will this be boring for me?
No, you'll be able to bring your skill to the workshop but you'll be on a journey of discovery and storytelling though your map so you'll have plenty to think about!
How will I get to the venue?
If you don't have a car, depending on the number of people travelling without a car we can help arrange a taxi to collect people and you'll just pay a share for the taxi. Just let me know if you need this help when you checkout.

Fabulous! I was only booked on the journalling weekend but I enjoyed it so much I booked onto the map mapping the next week end. Chrissie is a great facilitator, and supplied everything needed, including encouragement. Not only have I reconnected with my creative soul, but I have made new friends. Highly recommended!
Mona O'Brien - 11 October 2023
A wonderful creative and mindful workshop! It really improved my sketchbooks with new ideas and techniques and helped me to build more regular practice!
Larry Strange - 8 October 2023
An enjoyable weekend of workshops with Chrissie, her expertise was imparted with ease and participating was a pleasure, albeit a demanding one. I look forward to her return to Bute next year for more of the same

I have enjoyed this 2-day workshop very much - Sketchbook Diaries is a lot of fun, but actually quite therapeutic too. It encourages you to pay attention to what's happening around you, keeping you in the 'now' and then gives you space to filter and record what is important to you through the magic of coloured pencils and pens. For example, yesterday when I got home after the weekend, there were 10 butterflies sunning themselves on my apple tree and I KNOW that I'll be recording that today, so that I can remember it in the future. Would I have observed them without the course? Perhaps, but I certainly wouldn't give myself the gift of time to sit down and draw them in the Sketchbook Diary without the course. Absolutely recommend!
