Classes

2 hour class

Daytime

Starter exercise - You will learn how to use simple one point perspective and apply it to the drawing of a cube. Alongside this, you will consider the work of other artists in order to inform and inspire your own drawing. (With reference to Escher)

Main exercise - You will draw a still life in which the objects are placed on a surface, coupled with a specific light source. Your drawing will describe a group of angular objects.
A consideration of your eye-level in relation to the subject will be considered and simple perspective will be taught in order to create a realistic representation of the subjects. For this exercise you will be working with different grades of drawing pencils.

Your composition will include the setting and the cast shadows.

At each stage you will be given guidance and positive feedback on your work.

We are very fortunate to have studio space that looks out directly onto the river at the back of Kew Gardens. The world's oldest pot plant, a huge Jurassic Cyad, originally came to the gardens in 1775.This exercise can produce some magical results. Escher created some imaginary settings that are totally intriguing and will look at these closely.
