    About this class

Translating a 3D visual onto a 2D piece of paper is tricky. This course covers the fundamentals of translating the image your eyes see, into tremendous works of art and all takes place in the elegant V&A museum.

    In this class

Our friendly, experienced tutors cover the basic of drawing by hand and guide you through the fundamentals of transcribing real-world visuals into two-dimensional drawings.

    • Line, tone and scale.
    • Shading for depth and atmosphere/feel of a drawing
    • Basic physical tips, such as positioning, materials, subjects and sizing.
    • Techniques to help you "loosen up" and engage with drawing in new, fun, dynamic ways.
    • An understanding of "quality of line" and how this can affect the feel of your drawings and what you communicate with your drawings.

    Now you can

    • improve your drawing techniques
    • experiment with your personal style
    • improve on past drawings

    Other instructions

You need to bring your own sketchbook but all other materials including stools will be provided by us, we recommend that you invest in the largest sketch book you can, preferably A3, hard-backed and ringbound so you can fold it over and rest it comfortably on your knee.

    Fun fact

The longest drawing in the world is 9,582 meters long - but we don't expect you to complete that in a class!
