RESTORATION LONDON is an independent organisation that focuses on sustainability within the clothing industry. Our focus is on reusing, recycling and upcycling garments. We hold workshops around London, encouraging participants to mend their favourite items of clothing instead of disposing them into landfill. Our workshops aim to introduce ways of mending clothing through various textile methods in order to fix, deconstruct or customise to revive much loved pieces - offering a 10% discount to those bringing in an item of clothing to fix or use as fabric. We want to inspire people to learn new, invaluable skills and reconnect with textile techniques. We want to encourage creativity and minimise the negative social and environmental effects of fast fashion, together. We also host workshops for special events such as baby showers or hen parties. All of our workshops and parties come with free tea, coffee and cake!

Founder Hannah Porter graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2015 and since worked in the fashion and textiles industry for established brands before starting her own company. Trained in knitwear, Hannah was awarded a traineeship by The British Fashion Council to work in industry for a year as part of their graduate scheme straight after graduating. It was during this time that she really gained an insight into the world of fashion and the amount of work that goes into collections, from all involved. Showcasing collections at least four times a year at LFW, was an eye-opener to see how "disposable" people were treating these garments and their workers. She knew she wanted to do something about it. Hannah then started thinking about ways of redesigning with a purpose in mind to reuse the materials and regenerate these pieces through skilled textile methods to contribute towards a zero waste economy which lead to RESTORATION LONDON. Hannah wants to introduce to others the skills and knowledge she learnt during her studies in order to help save our planet!

I loved this class! I've booked before with Hannah and again she was super clear and comfortable. She sent the materials out in good time and made sure I received them, and the class was perfect - well paced, and she sent a recording after so I could finish the mat holder in my own time, which I did and it looks lovely!! I'd recommend this class to anyone thinking of learning macrame as it's not too complicated but makes a great finished product. Thanks so much, would def book another :D

I really enjoyed this virtual abstract embroidery workshop, Hannah is a fantastic teacher.....very patient with a lovely, warm style! I learnt a number of basic embroidery stitches with various yarns Hannah had sent. Definitely recommend this class and look forward to developing my skills in embroidery! 🙂

I had a brilliant session with Hannah learning to knit. This class was quite ambitious in that in 90mins we covered casting on, knit and purl stitching, instarsia and casting off, but Hannah made sure we were following along and even adapted her process to show me a left-handed version. It was a bit whistle-stop but we were sent a super detailed pdf worksheet beforehand and a recording of the whole class afterwards, so we have everything we need to practise and go over things alone. Hannah answered all our questions and accommodated requests graciously. I loved the touch of checking what colours we liked before she posted us the materials! Would recommend this class to total beginners who can make time to practise afterwards, and to people just wanting to learn intarsia. Thank you!

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Loved this class. Hannah was brilliant in sending out the materials well in time, was very flexible about timings and started promptly. Very relaxed class with good camera set up so I could see exactly what I was doing. Hannah also sent a video recording after the class so I had an aide memoir for any tricky bits. Hannah was very friendly and able to answer all my questions about the piece. Weaving is very therapeutic and relaxing and I would highly recommend this class to anyone looking for a bit of relaxation and well being in these troubled times. The added bonus was using eco friendly products and doing my bit for the environment.

I cannot recommend enough this truly enjoyable and perfectly organised and facilitated workshop! Hannah is knowledgable on her subject but mainly empathic to the needs, skills and pace of the participants. She also provided a warm and fun virtual space that was a great end of my day. And I now have a great hand-woven coaster and the desire to create more!

It was a really lovely evening learning macrame! Hannah is fun and easy to talk to. The set up with two cameras and a close up on her hands is so helpful. All the materials for the course arrived in recyclable packaging, each piece labeled nicely and everything else needed for the course was listed on booking. Lots of fun, sustainably minded course and something ill use a lot! Thanks Hannah!

Hannah is brilliant! Her class was really well planned, prepped and beautifully laid out with materials and sample bags. The materials are unbleached cotton cord, so strong, long lasting and good for the environment. The base of the bag was crocheted for us already, which meant we could get straight into the macrame! Especially considering the time it would have taken for Hannah to crochet the base for us before the class, its extremely well priced! The venue we gorgeous too. I actually had booked on the morning workshop (darning - also brilliant!) and had such a good time I asked if I could book on to the macrame bag workshop starting half an hour after! Hannah is fun, easy going and really happy to share her knowledge. Also, we were all very good at social distancing and had our masks too.

We had a brilliant afternoon thanks to some good company and excellent teaching and support from Hannah. It's great to see your creation come to life in front of your eyes and as with many things like this, it's possible to achieve a lot with no prior experience. Highly recommended.

I loved this macrame bag workshop taught by Hannah, she provided all the materials and detailed printed instructions, lovely presented and easy to understand. She taught me how to do square notes and handles. I now own a lovely sustainable bag that I proudly made myself (with Hannahs help :)) I've done several workshops with Hannah and I love them. Highly recommended

I loved this class. All the materials were provided and we were able to go at our own pace. I'm not an especially confident sewer but since the class I've done more sashiko patches on my own and love the style.
