The Minerva Workshop is located in Kentish Town in North London, in an old Victorian Warehouse full of creative businesses, and run by painter Lottie Cole.

The Minerva Workshop hosts masterclasses taught by artists and artisans as well as regular weekly classes. All the classes are taught by professional full-time artists and artisans, who love to share their knowledge and skill.

The classes are open to all levels, unless stated, and kept to a limited number of no more than 6. This keeps the classes intimate and allows for everyone to have sufficient help and encouragement in a friendly atmosphere.

As well as learning and expanding skills our goal is to send participants away refreshed and invigorated by sharing a creative experience.

What a brilliant workshop this was! Lottie was welcoming and her workshop space was neat, well laid out and with deference to Covid with fresh air flowing. The workshop was fascinating and in a morning session we learnt so many great painting techniques for up-cycling furniture. Lottie was attentive and answered all our questions fully and patiently. Such a happy experience. Definitely recommend it and will be booking another Minerva Studios course very soon!

The Introduction to Annie Sloan Chalk paint was brilliant, thoroughly enjoyable. Such a lovely group and Lottie talked us through all the possibilities as we tried it all ourselves. Thank you Lottie for a great session. I'd highly recommend it to anyone of any ability looking to discover Annie Sloan Chalk Paints.

I attended the Annie Sloane workshop to try out the paint, the colours and learn all about techniques. And it is easier than you think. Lottie (my teacher) was an inspiration- full of painting tips and ideas - and super patient and kind. She has a great relaxed space to paint in and I so enjoyed the workshop and valued her advice.

I had a lovely time learning all about Annie Sloan's chalk paint and techniques. Lottie is a great teacher - she made us feel comfortable to ask questions and develop our techniques and ideas. She was a wealth of information not just on chalk paints but other materials too. The class was paced just right with enough time to explore the main paint colours and methods. I feel ready to start painting my own furniture now!

I learned about the tools that can occupy the wood graining and the pigments which I have used before but I came across after a long time with them to paint on a wooden surface finish. The teacher was informative and approachable. I enjoyed the venue as it is a proper workshop and it had a lot of space to use materials and paint with convenience.

I loved the course however I would recommend for the students to be able to take home a few pins etc that were used in the course and are essential tools to make a shade at home. A small gesture that would have made the difference.

Sarah is a wonderful teacher and such an inspiration. Was wonderful to see how she repeated patterns by hand, and to see her archive collections. We were also given an extra class on colour which is what I'd really wanted to learn about, so absolutely loved the 3 day course. Lottie is a great host and the place itself was easy to get to. We had plenty of space and all the resources we needed. Would come back for more courses, longer or weekend courses.

Lovely workspace and environment. Great course and expert tutor Moji. I left with a beautiful lampshade and enthusiasm to make some more. I shall be back for more lampshade techniques and styles and also to try some of the other courses available. Thank you Lottie, thank you Moji and love to the other ladies - it was a great lil lampshade team. :) x Wahoooo!

I had a wonderful weekend with Moji learning how to make a pleated shade with pleated lining. She is a fantastic teacher and has a natural rapport with students. This was the second course I have done with Moji and would love to do more! The Minerva studio space is bright and well equipped, and it was lovey to sit and chat with like minded makers. Thank you!

What a day! I attended the Minerva Workshop course in order to make a pair of hard lampshades and honestly, it was such a terrific experience. I am now the proud owner of two totally handmade lampshades and I can not wait to put them to use. Lottie was so knowledgeable and very helpful when I had questions or needed feedback on the directions I was taking with my work and it gave me confidence to try new techniques and help smooth out any bits I struggled with. The space is light and lovely and my classmates were such good fun. Super 5 star experience!

Lottie Cole was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed my class. She is a very good teacher, explaining techniques of drawing with charcoal and pastels so I came away with artwork that was almost presentable! I will be going back.

The Gathered Lampshade 2 day course was great. Very professional and clear instruction, in a relaxed and friendly environment, in a cool part of London with terrific cafes for your lunch break. I was amazed that I and everyone on the class produced lampshades that you see in featured in interior magazines.

I had the best day! Totally absorbing, satisfying, creative and addictive paper cutting with Tracey English. Tracey was full of enthusiasm and happy to share her techniques and genuinely seemed to care that everyone had a really constructive, educational and artistic experience. The studio was an artists dream! I would live there if I could.

Coming back to art, having done a rigid A Level course in 1959, I'm learning how to stylise and use other techniques like collage which I'm really enjoying. Occasionally, it feels like falling off a cliff, as I'm used to realism, but Lottie Cole is always there with a parachute full of quiet suggestions and encouragement. The studio space is light and airy and Lottie is always gives us a warm welcome and real coffee.

The venue is fabulous, light and airy with lots of space for us to work, and a separate table for lunch. It was lovely to have lunch provided! Tracey was an excellent teacher and provided lots of tips and info for us to create our own paper collages, and shared some of the lovely papers she created. Both Lottie and Tracey created a lovely atmosphere for us, and the group were very friendly. I traveled all the way from Yorkshire for this workshop, and it was more than worth the early start! :)

The venue was perfect, spacious and comfortable with lots of good light. Tracey, our teacher was very generous with information about her techniques and also sharing her own materials. Lottie, the organiser, and Tracey were both friendly and encouraging and they made sure we all made the most of our day. The information sent out before the workshop was also very thoughtfully constructed so each student knew exactly what to bring, how to find the venue and what to expect. Our lunch was delicious and all in all it really was a wonderful day !

I found the two days of charcoal life drawing at Minerva Workshop really productive and stimulating. The tuition was well guided, sensitively thought out and the exercises delivered at a good pace. The studio space is wonderfully lit and has a great, friendly atmosphere. Overall, it was a really satisfying experience that I would definitely recommend booking a workshop here.

This is the second workshop I have attended that Leo has taught at Minerva and I was as pleased with my experience as the first time. Leo clearly has thought through his workshop structure carefully to both support and challenge his students to facilitate an environment where people can develop confidently and effectively. The models were very accomplished and professional further bringing the workshop to a high standard. As well as all that the general atmosphere was very friendly and accommodating allowing us to free up and importantly really ENJOY ourselves! I have taken many life drawing classes/workshops and this was perhaps my favourite one ever! As with last time the space and host at Minerva were fantastic! Big open space which is perfect for making and drawing. They also provide a delicious and generous lunch. I will return again.

I attended the charcoal animation workshop with Leo and was very impressed with the course. In just one day Leo taught us a variety of techniques to use charcoal as well as how to execute a professional looking animation. He worked through a very well thought out structure for the day which facilitated us learning a strong methodology whilst also giving space for intuitive development. As someone who studied Fine Arts at a respected institution I can say with confidence that this workshop is of high quality and well executed. Highly recommended! Leo is also very friendly and interesting person who took the time to understand what every student was trying to get out of the course and catered his advice to the individual accordingly. The studio where Minerva Workshops is based is fantastic, its large and spacious and fit for purpose! Moreover, Lottie who runs the space and programming was extremely welcoming and accommodating, serving delicious food and refreshments. I felt well looked after and will be returning to attend more classes!

I had such a lovely time making a Christmas wreath at Minerva. Lottie was very helpful and made the entire workshop so enjoyable. The group had never made wreaths before but thanks to Lottie's support and lovely materials we were all really pleased with our designs. I took the Charcoal animation course with Leo on Sunday. He was fantastic at guiding us through and explaining how to create our animations. There were a wide range of experience and abilities between everyone on the class, Leo was great at navigating between all of us and taking us all along at the same pace. We all finished with a few short animations that we had created and an ability to continue creating them independently. I had a very fun Sunday afternoon with a really lovely group and came out having learnt a new skill.

I learnt so much in such little time- will definitely continue developing the skills I learnt in this class. Leo was an amazing teacher, he had a lot of patience and taught us some great techniques- and Lottie a wonderful host who provided a lovely lunch spread and endless cups of tea and coffee. I would recommend this class to anyone with an interest in drawing and who wants to see them come alive!

Yesterday at the Minerva Workshop was one of the best days I’ve had in a long while. I took a class in Charcoal drawing Animation taught be the very excellent Leo Crane. Leo is a remarkable teacher and a wonderful facilitator. In no time at all he expelled all my misgivings about my own ability and immediately he had us working in an atmosphere of real excitement and joy. He made the subject which I was honestly quite daunted by, feel so organic and natural to each one of us. It was amazing to experience. In the short space of one day, he had enabled each of us to produce at least five short animations. It was really exciting to see and I strongly recommend Leo’s classes to everyone. I will definitely be returning! Minerva Workshop is a great place. Light airy and with a wonderfully warm atmosphere thanks to Lottie who runs the place with gracious generosity of spirit. She even gave us all a super lunch. I would go back there anytime. I strongly recommend them to everyone!!

LeaI learnt so much about Animation both giving me the opportunity to learn how to use the app and technical skill to feto gain confidence in developing the medium. Le LLeLeo was a superb lecturer and communicator. The venue was very good . well equipped and location is convenient. A bit cold but it was one of the coldest days of the year so far! All in all it was an inspiring workshop and given me incentive to develop this medium in the future.

I booked a group of seven as an away day for our work. We had the best time, all coming away with two lampshades that we were actually really proud of! Not only was it a really fun and informative day, but we also found the atmosphere in the studio really welcoming and loved the airy space that Lottie has so cleverly put together. Magda was a wonderfully patient teacher, clearly showing us what to do in her demonstrations and the result was very interesting - everyones work was so different to each other and clearly showed you can really put your own personality into the process! Thank you again for a great day.

I'm not a naturally crafty person and have some real hangups about my total incompetence whenever I try to make something. Magda was so kind and encouraging, and I felt like I'd been on a real emotional journey as well as coming away from the workshop with two beautiful lampshades that I'd managed to create! Such a warm and supportive environment. Lottie's workshop is also a gorgeous place to work - very light and bright and open - and the whole experience felt like a really good way of leaving my comfort zone and exploring artistic possibilities. Thank you, Magda and Lottie!

I had an entirely fantastic time at Minerva Workshop. The venue itself is absolutely lovely, filled with light and greenery, and both Magda and Lottie were welcoming and warm. Magda's tutorial was informative and easy to follow, and I felt fully supported in my creative endeavours throughout the day, whilst still retaining the freedom to experiment and have fun. The experience of designing my own fabric pattern, assembling the lampshade myself, and leaving with a finished product was fantastic, and has left me feeling eager to seek more opportunities to make things. Also, the vegetarian lunch really was delicious! I really felt that I took so much from the day and would recommend it to anyone.

I am not a natural crafty person so was a little nervous about the course but it was so friendly and relaxed I quickly got into the swing of it and made two gorgeous lampshades that I am very proud of. The choice of colours and materials available was great - I did a roll print in two shades, it looks quite professional and matches the room well. There were of course some tricky parts but Magda was on hand to show tips and tricks which built my confidence so I did the second shade myself . I highly recommend this course if you want a new challenge or have a room you want to personalise.

I just LOVE the lampshade I made on Magda's course!! I couldn't believe how professional it looked - it was so satisfying to complete a whole lampshade in one morning. Magda is a brilliant teacher. This was such a fun course and Magda is so good at attending to all her students' needs. She demonstrated the techniques clearly and guided each of us as much or little as we needed. We were able to choose our own fabric, the size and style of lampshade we wanted to make. I can't recommend Magda's lampshade making class enough. Go for it! You will be so delighted and proud of what you take home.
