A Tabletop Workshop taking place at the Purr & Wag It home studio in Camberwell, London.  The weekend sessions run from 10am or 2pm and the evening from 6.30pm.  

Please note I need a minimum of 3 participants to run this workshop.

The fast fix way to make some beautiful felt mistletoe to add to your festive decoration collection. 

The Everlasting Mistletoe Wreath ((20cm Ø ) uses a combination of cutting and stitching techniques.  

Made using 100% wool once you've cut  and wrapped your mistletoe leaves around the hoop to create your wreath you'll attach the berries by hand stitching.  A final flourish is the red organza ribbon bow. 

If you have arthritis in your hands or a similar condition you may find binding the hoop tautly a little tricky but I can help you with this. Also the stitch work is likely to take a little longer.

Very much a case of straight forward once you know how.

Christmas Everlasting Mistletoe Wreath

Feel the hygge by adding some charm to your home this festive season making one of these fellas.   

Heather will take you step by step through a combination of simple beginner’s level needle and wet felting techniques. 

There is a choice between a red, dark red or grey hat and a mid or light grey beard.   How tall your finished Tomte is depends very much on the length of hat you create but a reasonable estimate is between 15 and 20cm tall.  

The workshop is timed to be quite leisurely and relaxing making it great for all ages.  Completely perfect for groups then whether family, friends, colleagues or a mixture of all!  

The Tabletop Workshop home studio in Camberwell suits between 4 and 10 max (a little cosy) but if there are more of you, or it’s easier, I can come to you.

NB:  Children from 13 up must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Question 1

Do you have a food intolerance?  I'll try to take it into account when I'm baking

You will be guided through how to lay out the fibres to make a flat piece of felt as well as using carders to blend colours.  Then using the reference material you have brought with you, create a simple figurative or abstract image for the top.  Lastly you'll learn how to transform all the loose fibres into a piece of cloth.

If you can't quite decide what type of  image to create Heather's home is full of art and design books and if need be she can print you an image to adapt.

A very good introduction to 2D wet felting with a finished personal felt creation to take away at the end of the afternoon. The venue was handy for Denmark Hill train station and Heather provided a cuppa and delicious cake. The small group size of 4 allowed for individual help when required and Heather kept an eye on the time and gently moved us through the different stages so we all completed our pieces. No matter what subject, there was a rainbow of coloured wool to choose from or to blend to produce the right shade. We learned extra on how effects could be achieved from observation of other students‘ pieces. Heather answered all my questions promptly before and after the workshop. For those few hours of the workshop I was totally absorbed in the process and the whole experience was a pleasure. thank you

This was a really informative and enjoyable workshop. I had done other felting workshops before but I’m confident this would be also be suitable for  complete beginner. I was guided through a range of techniques and was able to complete a picture working alongside Heather in the second half of the video. I’d suggest not starting with a design but pausing in the middle to assemble it once you’ve seen the various ways this can be achieved. I  came away with the understanding of how to make further pieces on my own and feel inspired to keep going! Highly recommended.

This class was excellent and surpassed all of my expectations. Neither myself or my mum had ever done any felting before and we aren’t particularly artistically inclined. Heather was an excellent teacher and even made cake for us! Learn the ancient craft of wet felting: turn an amorphous mass of loose fibres into a piece of cloth with a simple image on it

Taking place at Heather's home in Camberwell on one day (morning three hour workshop, *an hour break** followed by a three & a half hour workshop). A day of felt making: 2D and 3D Wet Felting

What a lovely way to spend a Saturday. Heather is so knowledgeable and easily adapted to teaching a complete novice (me) and someone who had felted several times before. I created two pieces (a 2D picture and a small pot) that I still can't quite believe I made myself. 
The venue was very clean and suitable for the activity being taught. Covid restrictions were careful considered. Plentiful cups of tea were supplied and the homemade cake was delicious!!

3D wet felting uses a variation of the 2D method.  This workshop teaches you the basics of using resists to make a small vessel.

You'll use scissors to cut/place different colours of pre felt  atop a maximum A3 size pre-felt background.  Then you'll use wet felting techniques to bring everything together to form your final pieces of work.  Depending on the complexity of what you make you may have time to make more than one piece.   You can use abstract Bauhaus imagery as inspiration or bring your own.

Abstract Painting using pre-felt inspired by the masters - Braque, Matisse, Bauhaus weavers ...

We did Heather's abstract pre felt course. I wasn't really sure what to expect and wasn't disappointed. We both came away with a lovely decorative piece of felted wool to frame. Heather explained the process to us and gave us lots of ideas as to what would work. She had a lovely range of merino wool colours all of wonderful quality. A lovely way to spend the afternoon and a delicious cake and cups of tea thrown in!

As a complete beginner I was so pleased to take home a lovely decorative piece o f  felt work.  Heather is a great teacher who listened to what we wanted to make and then helped us achieve it.  My friend and I had a lovely creative afternoon and also enjoyed a delicious home made cake.

Be inspired by Jim Ede's pebble displays at Kettles Yard and land artists Andy Goldsworthy and Richard Long.  Display your pebbles on a table in a bowl on a shelf or a book case or thread them onto a linen string to create a window/wall hanging for your bathroom or elsewhere in your home.  

This kit provides you with sufficient wool tops, wool roving, acrylic filling to create 5 natural coloured stones between 4-10cm in diameter or 10 tiny pebbles for a wall hanging.  It also includes a chunk of olive oil soap, a needle felting needle and a length of linen yarn.

Felted Wool Pebble Kit

Bring the beach inside!  Make felted pebbles with simple wet felting techniques.  Focus your mind through your hands and set aside the noise of the everyday.

Please confirm whether you want natural coloured fibres or bright colours.  Plus whether you need bubble wrap.

Everybody looks great in a woolly jumper and this little felted woollen planter won't scratch your surfaces!

This kit provides you with sufficient merino wool tops to create a small felt vessel - think tea cup sized.  It also includes some of the materials and some of the equipment you need.   

Any other equipment you will be able to find around your home and a sheet of hacks will be included in your kit.  

You'll learn how to layer and mix fibres.  What a resist is and the best materials to make one from.  How to control shrinkage, how to shape your vessel and where to find out about felting history.

All the materials plus some of the equipment, Plus a link and password to the step by step video. 

During checkout you'll be asked what colour of pre-felt you'd like for your background - natural, black, blue or plaster. I'll pack this together with a selection of pre-felt pieces in a variety of colours and sizes, an A4 sheet of tracing paper, fine net, chunk of olive oil soap and a sheet of bubble wrap (if you haven’t got a large enough piece waiting for recycling) and post the kit off to you. 

If you'd like I can also signpost you to various inspiration to get you started, just get in touch.

To make your felt collage you'll use sharp scissors to cut and place different colours of pre-felt atop an A4* size pre-felt background (or two A5*).  Once your design is complete you'll use wet felt making techniques to bring your cut pre-felt together into the finished piece without the need for glue or a single stitch!  Once it is dry, if you'd like, you can embellish it with stitch or beads.  
Or pop it straight into a frame and hang it on your wall.

Abstract Collage using pre-felt

Be inspired by the Masters: Miro, Matisse cutouts, Braque birds, Bauhaus weavers to create your very own felt collage masterpiece.

No previous experience is necessary to learn how to make a sprig or a wreath of my covetable Everlasting Mistletoe.  The step by step video with lots of close ups will show you exactly how.

For the Sprig you'll learn how to create the branches from floristry wire and yarn*.  Then you’ll cut your leaves from felt*  and hand stitch these together with felt* balls for berries to the branches.

For the Wreath you’ll cut the leaves from felt* provided and then bind these to your hoop.  Next berries formed from felt* and larger leaves are attached by hand stitching.  

For both, the final flourish is adding a red organza ribbon bow.   

*All yarn and felt is 100% wool.

Depending on how quickly you stitch making the Sprig takes between 3 - 3.5 hours and the wreath 2 - 2.5 hours.

Tabletop Workshops is the teaching arm of Purr & Wag It  and is run by Heather Fiona Martin.

A graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London.  She is an experienced felt maker who for well over a decade has been making felt with people of all ages and with widely differing abilities in educational and community settings across Greater London.   

Purr & Wag It (PaW), her wet felted pet portraits and landscapes small business was born out of a gift for her brother.  It marries her love of animals with her love for making and in particular pushing the boundaries of fine detail in wet felt making.  

Tabletop Workshops, the teaching arm of the business affords Heather the opportunity and the great enjoyment of facilitating others creativity in the relaxed setting of her home in Camberwell.  She lives with her daughter and 3 cats.  Winnie and the boys will be elsewhere in the house during the workshops but if you have cat allergies Tabletop Workshops may not be the right creative space for you. 

Heather holds an enhanced DBS certificate for children and vulnerable adults.
