In this beautiful class you will learn how to dye cloth and wool in a variety of shades and tones using natural dyes from plants, lichens, rust and even tea! With Designer Maker Rob Jones, the class also combines the Japanese art of 'Shibori' (stitch & bound resist patterns). You will also dye a silk scarf with a design and colour combination of your choice.
You will use different bindings to resist dye and create pattern including the basic kamosage knot used to secure all bound work and how to make the kumo (spiderweb), hitta (binding with beads) and tesuji (stripes) patterns using binding.
You will also understand different natural mordanting and dyeing methods, including how to mordant your fabrics with Myrobalan, Aluminium acetate and iron and how to dye your fabrics with the following natural plant dyes and indigo.
