3. Natural Dyeing Workshop (sponsored by BABIDA)
Join us for an inspiring Natural Fabric Dyeing workshop where you'll learn to use natural ingredients such as onion skins, turmeric, and other botanicals to create beautiful eco-friendly dyes. In this hands-on session, participants will explore various dyeing techniques and create their own unique naturally dyed tote bag or tea towel to take home. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our friendly reception team and guided to your designated workshop space. Throughout the session, you'll have ample time for learning, experimenting, and connecting with fellow participants. Thanks to our wonderful sponsor BABIDA, once our creations are complete, we'll celebrate with a glass of BABIDA's signature Portuguese White Sangria and perfectly paired nibbles made at the Correll Kitchen. As if that wasn't enough, guests are invited to enjoy The Ministry's Bar and Garden during their visit to enjoy the beats of Ministry of Sound's DJs and to connect with fellow guests. For workshops that start at 6:00, the bar will be in full swing when the workshop finishes. 7. Natural Dyeing Workshop
Learn how to dye with indigo and natural plant dyes using Shibori, the ancient Japanese art of resist dyeing. You will learn the basic binding techniques and then dye a series of samples using natural dyes and indigo on cotton, silk and wool (cashmere!) fabrics. You will take home an A6 natural dyed hardback sample book for future reference. Over the 6 hour workshop you’ll master a variety of binding skills and learn all about indigo and how to dye with natural dyes: Use ne maki shibori (bound beads) to resist dye and create pattern including the basic kamosage knot used to secure all bound work. Understand different natural mordanting and dyeing methods: How to mordant your fabrics with Myrobalan, Aluminium acetate, Alum and iron How to dye your fabrics with the following natural plant dyes and indigo to produce a wide range of colours; Tansy (Yellow), Madder (Red), Indigo (Blue) You will also dye with a Mystery dye which is different each time the workshop is run! How to overdye with indigo and modify colours with Iron How to overdye with a different coloured dye Unpick your finished work and reveal your designs. Please note: The studio is up a flight of stairs and there is no lift and there are uneven floors in part of the building so not suitable for disabled access. This class is run at other locations with disabled access so please enquire direct if you would like to attend. Thank you. All materials and tools are provided. Includes pre-mordanted cotton, silk and wool fabric for samples that you will be able to take away as a sample book. An A6 hardback natural dyed notebook is provided to stick your samples in. Instructions on how to create and maintain your own indigo vat and how to dye with natural dye extracts and mordants will also be provided. You will take home a set of samples for reference. Silk scarves will be available to purchase on the day if you want to take other finished projects home with you.
