Really fun workshop, very informative and super chill. Good the opinions of making many different things mugs or just one super big awesome one. Would definitely recommend to other people as a fun social activity.
Lovely studio, with a friendly and informative host, Sorrel. Had a great time making something with people I didn't know. Overall, it was a very relaxed and chatty atmosphere! The studio itself has a great variety of glazes and works to be as sustainable as possible!
This course is perfect for beginners or if you want specific help on how to build something. It’s also such a nice thing to do on a weekday evening!
Really enjoyed the class! Would recommend
Ali was an attentive, unhurried and perceptive teacher who gave me very useful advice on developing my throwing skills
Fantastic workshop from start to finish. The whole session was well planned and it was a good mix of challenging and yet achievable steps. Sorrel was a super teacher and we had a wonderful time. Strongly recommend!
A relaxing evening making some tiles with Sorrel. I am brand new to tiles and raw glazing but I have learned a lot in these two hours. Looking forward to applying raw glazing to my other works.
Great experience
I had such a fun time at the wheel throwing class. I've wanted to try it for a long time and never knew where to start. Georgia was an amazing teacher and the small classes mean you get lots of feedback and help as you need it. I'm going to rebook soon!
Great session - Georgia is a super attentive teacher, made easier by the fact that the class size is super small! Great space and location
I really loved this experience - the workshop was fun, accessible and really well run. An engaging way to make what turned out to be a really beautiful mug in the end! I am looking forward to coming back for more classes!
Loved this! Such a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Sorrel was really lovely and helpful, and showed us multiple techniques whilst teaching us some history of tile making.
This is a great introduction for either beginners who want to try out throwing or for someone like myself who has already some experience, but would like more guidance with the basics. Georgina was very patient and helpful, and I felt I learnt a lot. Thank you.
Had a lovely time at this class with Sorrel! She made everything really clear, and was helpful and friendly. Would recommend to anyone and we'll definitely keep an eye on future classes!
This workshop is a great introduction to hand building ceramics. Loved the entire process. Thank you so much!! Very fun class
Truly a perfect experience. The teacher was incredibly passionate, knowledgeable, and importantly very patient with our attempts to save our increasingly wobbly pots. I couldn't recommend this more.
Insightful and fun class. Sorrel is very patient and knowledgable and explained all very clearly. She even make a booklet and shared extra resources with us. All materials were provided. I left feeling confident and inspired. I would highly recommend!
This was a fun introduction to the fundamentals of making glazes, suitable for complete beginners who want to get started making their own signature glaze recipes. I'm already planning more experiments!
Very fun and informative class. We made three different glazes. Very excited to see how they turn out! The teamwork aspect is really nice as well.
Sorrell easily managed to demystify the basics of glaze and had me feeling confident I can now go forth and make my own. Brilliant evening, so lovely to meet other potters and learn something that's been a mystery to me so far. Thank you.
Sorrel is a great teacher and the workshop is really informative but also really fun. Would recommend to everyone
Excellent class, had a fantastic time, great atmosphere and learnt so much! Plus my jug came out great, Sorrel was a fantastic tutor!

Really enjoyed the course - learned loads about making glazes and made a number. Sorrel explained everything really clearly. The course notes will be extremely helpful when it comes to having a go solo.! Great fun as well as educational.
Great hands on class with just the right amount of theory! Small size class so chances to ask lots of questions and work with the other participants, super helpful thank you @sustainablemakets! Highly recommended!
This class was so fun, even more fun than I expected. Sorrel is a great teacher with a great sense of humour!
I did a plaster mould making 1:1 workshop with Sorrel. It was a great learning experience, the teacher was not only knowledgeable about plaster mould making but also managed to convey complex concepts in an easily understandable manner. I’ve challenged myself with a three part mould and walked away with valuable skills and insights. Cannot wait to make slip cast using my mould.
Sorrel has been an absolutely lovely and attentive teacher! I really enjoyed the classes and feel like I’ve learnt a lot, I would definitely come back for more! :)
Thank you for a super clear intro and the consistent guidance. Will be coming again!

Great class, made 2 fantastic mugs, Sorrel was a really great teacher!
This is a fantastic course and I'd really recommend it to anyone interested in ceramics or just those wanting to try something new and have fun in the process. I've been interested in hand-building / sculpture in particular for the longest of time, but could never find the right course. This is perfect and I couldn't have hoped for more. Sorrel makes you feel completely at home and answers all of your questions. The introduction to techniques and materials is fun as well as an important grounding, before being given the chance to extend into a final creative project for the last two weeks which I absolutely loved! You're also given help throughout this time which is definitely needed. I was so pleased with the end result. I'm completely hooked now and can't wait to sign up for more courses. If you've read this far, I'd say definitely give it a go, you won't regret it!
Really enjoyed the workshop, Sorrel was a great host and teacher which made the experience really nice. Would highly recommend it for anyone.
Really loved this class! As a total novice, Sorrel was super clear and helpful when explaining the process. It was also really interesting to learn about medieval techniques and popular themes which Sorrel is clearly passionate about. Such a fun way to spend an evening. LOVED this class!! Have had zero experience in building ceramics so I was very pleasantly surprised how much I was actually able to do by the end of the class! Super fun and informative, Sorrel was a great teacher, and I can’t wait to see what my little guy looks like when it’s been fired!
Really enjoyable ourse

This workshop run by Sorrel was a great experience - very informative, fun and historical.
It was wonderful to hear about the processes and designs used for ceramics hundreds of years ago, and I feel that I learned a lot!
Would thoroughly recommend grabbing a ticket.
Had a really great Saturday morning making marbled mugs. Sorrel was very friendly and informative. Can’t wait to get my mugs back and see how they turned out!
Thanks to lovely Sorrel for a very informative introduction to raw glazing. This is a great technique to reduce the energy involved in firing ceramics and I'm excited to continue using it in my own work. The workshop is in a bright and calm space and we all ended up with lovely individual pieces.
Loved learning about ceramics and glazing and the fabulous Sorrel showing us what to do ! Heavenly morning would highly recommend anything ceramics based with Sustainable Makers!! Can't wait to see the results...

Had a great morning making tiles with Sorrel, learnt a lot and had a really fun time.
Such a fun class to be able to learn something new whilst doing something relaxing and calming. Sorrel was great teacher showing us methods and guiding us with tips and tricks; as well as learning about new artists and other makers of marble effect clay. It felt like a very intimate and personalised class which was a bonus.
Great class. Sorrel is a great teacher. I learnt a lot while also having a really fun time. Will be returning
Really loved the class, managed to make a much nicer mug than I ever imagined. Great teacher, thanks XXX
This class was fantastic! Sorrel was such a great tutor and was so patient making the class fun and teaching us about the history of Medieval face jugs. At the end of the class we were all impressed with how we had made such large jugs - all thanks to the amazing Sorrel! I can’t wait to do it all again!
Had a mould making class with Sorrel and it was super informative and very well explained. Ended up with a great mould at the end of it and feel confident to go on and make more moulds now! Would definitely recommend if you’re thinking about learning more :) !
Really enjoyed this course with Sorrel! We learnt all the key hand building techniques such as coiling, pinching and slab building. We also experimented with different clays and decoration methods. The perfect course to learn foundational skills or to refresh your memory! You also get to work on your own pieces to take home, with lots of support and input. highly recommend!
We had a BRILLIANT first experience at our mug making workshop with Sorrel. Some thoughts to summarise:
- Fun
- Intimate (not like that)
- Knowledgeable yet approachable
- Great sense of community
- Toasty warm in the cabin (despite the sub zero conditions outside)!
- PROUD of our pieces, and genuinely excited to go and pick up our creations
Thanks so much guys,
Love Will and Clem
Sorrel was an excellent tutor made everyone feel at home both beginners and those with some experience. A lot of preparation had been done beforehand to enable us to start straight away. We all managed to finish some tiles and will be exciting to see the results. Would highly recommend the session no matter what level you feel you are at.
I came into this with no knowledge of handbuilding ceramics. Sorrel provided a clear, concise orientation to the theory and we quickly moved through the steps planning, cutting, carving, and painting tiles. Copious materials, tools and reference books were provided, as were refreshments.
I have yet to see how the tiles I made in the class turned out, but I'm already planning to make more
Sorrel is a great teacher! The class was easy to follow and very fun! Sorrel’s years of knowledge and experience shon through. I’ll definitely be attending more classes at SMoL !
Sorrel was absolutely amazing! It was the first time I'd ever tried anything like this and I was a bit nervous but I didn't need to be, she made me feel so at home and it was so much fun! Her expertise shone, and regardless of your level, it was clear you would learn something new and have the chance to put your creative skills to use. I can't recommend this highly enough and I'm really looking forward to going back and signing up to try out more courses.
A beautiful class. Sorrel was attentive to all our needs & you will come away with something to treasure and feeling inspired. Recommend to anyone!
This workshop was recommended by a friend of mine and I absolutely loved it! I I had been thinking of taking pottery lessons and for me this was a perfect introduction. Sorrel is an excellent teacher, very approachable and engaging. I really liked her studio and I’m coming back for more next year. Paulo
So much fun, and really educational. It definitely left me excited to keep experimenting and put the things I learned into practice.
This was my first time working with clay and I had the best time. Our tutor was friendly and supportive but also let us get carried away! Would highly recommend.
So much fun! The class was low-key and welcoming, but also informative. I’ll absolutely be signing up for another.
Very interesting and informative. A good introduction to the science behind glazing without being overwhelming. The right balance of practical, 'hands on' activity and information.
Loved this class - I now feel totally confident to make my own glazes from scratch.
Sorrel is a great teacher! She was super patient and explained everything clearly. The class was really fun and I will definitely be booking in for another one soon :)
My mum and I really loved this class. We were welcomed warmly to an attractive, well-equipped space. The venue is at the end of a small industrial estate, and we were initially nervous that it might not feel safe to walk back to the tube in the dark, but the estate is filled with food delivery kitchens, so it was bright and busy with delivery drivers (and full of delicious food smells!) as we left. I would definitely feel completely confident to visit again for future classes.
We were given a big slab of prepared clay, lots of inspiration, clear and helpful teaching and support, plentiful tools, and even a big set of 3D-printed stencils of genuine Medieval designs, which makes the creative process much easier! I think Sorrel uses different-coloured clays each time, so if you prefer a specific colour, it might be worth asking in advance. We had terracotta clay and white slip, which was exactly what we wanted. Sorrel can add a glaze to your work before firing if you want it, which makes the final pieces more durable and heat-safe.
I'm really looking forward to seeing my work once it's fired!
Super fun workshop, had a blast playing around and learning coiling techniques.
Went to the mug making workshop and had a wonderful time! Everyone was very friendly and we even got a little tour of the workshop. The class was easy to follow and incredibly fun. We left feeling enriched and excited to go again.
This is a really lovely hidden gem of a studio with a charming and friendly vibe. The teacher was great and I had a wonderful workshop. I'd highly recommend
Great class! Sorrel was a skilled teacher, demonstrating the technique and assisting when necessary, but also giving us the room to explore and make our own pieces. She also shared tons of historical facts about ceramics!
Fun class! Informative and interesting to learn a new technique. Thanks Sorrel! Can't wait to see how my marble mugs turn out :)
Loved it! Really informative and relaxed and lots of time to make my mug. Thanks!
Really fun workshop, very informative and super chill. Good the opinions of making many different things mugs or just one super big awesome one. Would definitely recommend to other people as a fun social activity.
