    • I recently took a pottery class at Sak Beh Pottery and it was an incredibly fulfilling experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff who were eager to share their passion for pottery. Tessa was patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging, making the learning process enjoyable for everyone in the class. The studio itself had a cozy and creative atmosphere, with plenty of space and all the necessary tools and materials readily available. Whether you're a complete beginner like me or more experienced, there's something for everyone here. Throughout the class, I was amazed at how quickly I was able to pick up the basics of pottery making, thanks to the clear instructions and hands-on guidance provided. By the end of the session, I had created two pieces that I never thought I'd be capable of making. Looking forward to collection in 3 weeks time. Overall, I highly recommend Tessa classes to anyone looking to explore their creative side through pottery. It's not just a class, it's an opportunity to unwind, express yourself, and discover a new hobby that brings joy and satisfaction.

    • An undoubtedly interesting experience held by people who had a good grasp on their craft and seemed to be passionate about it too. The studio is very pretty and clean. I liked all the pottery displayed. There were a few things that could be improved so the experience will be more relaxing, in my opinion. At times it was quite hard to see how the teacher positioned their hands on the clay. Either moving the wheel in a more suitable position (if that’s possible) or to be invited to gather around to observe from other angles could have helped with this issue. Sometimes the stuff seemed stressed and couldn’t find their words to explain clearly how to do something and what are the logical reasons for why a move should be done in a certain way. Therefore, I didn’t find all the explanations as clear as they could be and that made the experience a bit more stressful than I would like it to have been. That being said this was an interesting experience.

    • Great taster class, lovely teacher and cute studio, but two hours weren't sufficient to get a real taste - too little time was spent on explaining the techniques used, and there were too many people in the class to allow the teacher to spend sufficient time with each person. I'd suggest either extending the session to 3 hours, or alternatively focusing on one form of pottery rather than two. Thanks,

    • Great class! Time will fly by quickly as there’s so much to learn. Appreciate that they take the time to go through some theory so we understand what we're doing and not just going through the motions. It takes around 4 months to be proficient at wheel throwing, so you can imagine how packed it is condensed into a 2 hour session. But don’t worry, instructors are helpful and will remedy any issues that we have and guide you along. If you want a taster on wheel throwing, this is a great introduction to it.

    • An excellent course, well taught and thorough, covering all aspects of throwing, finishing and glazing pots. There is a lot to cram into 5 weeks so you have to work quite quickly and not worry about making everything perfect. Initially you throw 5 to 6 pots which you then work on for the rest of the course. It really makes you appreciate the skills of the potters. Studio is very clean. Aprons are provided as is tea and coffee and biscuits (if you have time!)

    • I enjoyed my first time ever doing pottery on a wheel. I arrived late unfortunately but I was able to observe then get instruction despite. I did 3 pieces. I bought a 2nd piece to collect in 3 weeks. The instructors were very good. I wish to go back to practice but will see if a pottery class is nearby to where I live. I loved it. I want to learn more and become good at it and create designs.

    • Excellent facilities. What I liked about the session was that the tutor walked you through the first throw, clearly explaining what needed to be done at each step, and assisted with any issues in order to enable you to have one completed piece; thereafter, you were left to see if you could recall the steps and techniques correctly and create your own pieces without assistance (unless you really needed it - tutor keeping a watchful eye all the while with gentle reminders of the techniques if required). For a complete beginner, a wonderful introduction to throwing.

We picked a beginner class which was totally appropriate for us. The lesson was very chilled and was at a pace which enabled you to learn and follow the stages without feeling like you were getting left behind. The vibes were good. The music was nice. We had a really fun time. I would definitely go again. I highly recommend at least trying this once in your life. Its not as easy as it looks on tv lol

Despite forgetting to mention we might get a little ( A lot) messy and maybe not to wear white… This was a really great experience from beginning to end! Tessa made us both feel welcomed and at ease from the minute we steered into her quirky studio. She was patient and happy to go over things a few times for two clumsy beginners! After a few hours of laughs & relaxing clay work whilst listening to D’Angelo (Tessa’s great choice), we were surprised when we realised we’d actually managed to create some beautiful work. We learnt all the basics we need to go to a pottery studio in the future and make more pots. We each made 3 pots, and were able to choose the one we want finished, glazed and fired for collection later. A wonderful soulful experience.

    • The course was unbelievably great fun! Tessa was a fantastic teacher and the class was in a small enough group (7 of us) so you were always able to seek help when you needed it. Tessa and her colleague are there to help make sure you progress as much as possible, while the class is 2 hours long there certainly isn't any clock watching for you to leave. I managed to make 5 pieces and in turn have a much shorter xmas present list :) I couldn't recommend the course enough and it was a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours on Sunday, super relaxing. I'm VERY tempted to do it again!

    • We attended the Intensive Wheel Throwing Workshop on Saturday 19/07 in the afternoon. The experience was good but the course itself was not great: the teacher was clearly very good at pottery, but being an introductory course, we did not received enough insights into how the pieces are finished or what the aftermath process is. Also, I was not happy with having to wash and clean all the tools and wheel myself.

    • I had such a lovely time at Sak Beh Pottery! I was given a gift voucher for my birthday and opted to do the intensive wheel throwing workshop - something that was on my bucket list for a long time. Tessa was such a warm and kind teacher, expertly and patiently guiding us through the different hand techniques and educating us about the clay and the process. It was definitely challenging but so satisfying when you end up with what looks like a decent bowl or pot!! The first pot is free to keep and any others you want to keep you could buy. After 3 weeks you can come and collect the finished pots (they trim and glaze it for you) - can't wait to see mine!

    • I loved this session! It was so much fun and I really enjoyed it. Tessa who was the instructor was lovely and patient and made sure everyone had made something nice to take home by the end of the session. The studio is so cute it's light and airy, we were socially distanced (only 7 of us including Tessa) and had our own space without needing PPE screens which sometimes can ruin the social aspect (although we wore masks which was good). Everything about this experience was a 10/10 and I definitely want to come back again :)

    • We absolutely loved having a go at the pottery wheel but felt Tessa spent a bit too long instructing at the start. It was a lot of information to retain before we got to have a go. We also felt that 6 people was too many in one class, as we each spent quite a bit of time waiting for help when we got stuck with something.

I think this is an incredibly long time and took a lot of the workshop. Maybe smaller classes and actually let people know when their items are ready. I've been checking the site and my class date isn't even on there.

I had booked to attend the class with a friend but there was something wrong with the booking system and we were turned away at the door. We received a refund but the class was booked far in advance and it was disappointing not to be able to take part in the class as we had travelled to get there.

    • The instructor was intimidating, every time I made a mistake she would say that “well this is not good because you’ve done this wrong again”. It made me feel insecure and useless as it was my first time doing it. Also, the class ended 30minutes earlier that stated. I was surprised that we could only take 1 of our creations home and an additional £3.50 will be charged if u want to take more than that. I have seen many other places that allows us to take 4 of our pieces home for free. Not worth £50 for the service and the fact that it was less than 3 hours.

    • What a beautiful studio, the photos do not do it justice. Had a few problems with too many folks showing up for the class which the owner was not able to manage well and instead blamed Obby. Was an incredibly awkward start. The instructions and class were great, although the wheel throwing was more difficult that I thought it would be! The instructor was super hands on and helpful and was able to make some pots. They don't send you any reminders when your pots are done, you have to check their website for this - don't forget!

    • Really enjoyed my this workshop. Each person had their our own station (no sharing/split time), we learned a little about pottery and clay, as well as the techniques we would be using. We watched the teacher making a pot and then we applied what we learned to our piece. At the end, everyone helped clean the stations so we also learned about the cycle of clay and how you can reclaim it, as well as the care you should have with silica dust. The studio also offers classes if you're keen on that after the workshop. Can't wait to pick up my piece!

    • Thoroughly enjoyed this taster session - the studio is beautiful and Mallory was such a brilliant instructor. She was so passionate about ceramics it was impossible not to share her enthusiasm, and she was calm, patient, and supportive throughout. I unreservedly recommend this class!
