London Art Classes are held in famous artist Nick Malone's working studio - a truly creative space in which to realise your artistic potential!

Beginners to drawing and painting are particulary welcome - the classes are small with lots of personal attention and a great atmosphere. We offer a very relaxed, student led class where everyone is free to work at their own pace. There are three elements to each class:

  • Practical studio work

  • Instruction in the basic techniques of drawing and painting

  • A slide show or short film on contemporary art

Use of materials and a fabulous lunch of fresh bagettes, brie, camembert, grapes and wine are all included.

Nick is passionate about promoting good art practice, which he sees as a vital part of his role as a professional artist. He has extensive experience of developing creativity in beginners and more experienced artists.

As an artist Nick has exhibited extensively in London and internationally, including at the Royal Academy, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Art Bermondsey Project Space, The British Council Greece and the Carrousel du Louvre. Before becoming an artist, Nick had an academic career, becoming Principal Lecturer in Humanities at the University of Luton, Visiting Professor in Modern Literature at the Aristotle University of Salonika, Greece and Visiting Professor in Contemporary Literature at the University of Wisconsin, USA.

It was a real experience and pleasure to paint in an authentic artist's studio. Nick is a lovely guy and extremely knowledgeable on art. He was very open to any questions on art and painting and didn't make you feel silly for asking! Furthermore, he is an expert on colour mixing and we ended up learning so much. The free lunch was a lovely touch, with fresh baguettes and cheese. If you're looking for some true guidance on painting and want to learn more about art in general, this is the place to go!

This Art Class is an excellent all round experience, where Nick enhances the painting sessions/lessons with an optional set of techniques to explore for the day, book references for inspiration, short videos about artists who deployed the presented techniques, his own extensive experience and expertise and an unlimited amount of material to use.

We were a little disappointed. Nick Malone was a nice man and clearly very clever but we felt at the end of the session we hadn't learnt very much ie how to improve our technique. Also we had no choice as to the medium.to be used. This might have been practical ie paintings would dry to take home by using acrylic.Lunch was very pleasant but it was not made clear that lunch would be provided so we had bought food.Overall probably felt the course was overpriced for the content. To summarise Nick should probably have asked us at the beginning what we wanted to do and also given a choice of medium if possible and maybe demonstrated some techniques. We did a sketching course previously which was brilliant.

Had an absolutely brilliant time with Nick. Bought this as a birthday present for a friend and it was an incredible, relaxing and enriching experience! Nick gave lots of interesting, thought provoking context to the act of drawing as well as a structured, useful way to begin practicing. We were both complete beginners in drawing and had never done life drawing before- so we were a little nervous!- Nick put us completely at ease and we felt we improved massively during the session. Thank you Nick!
