Have a go at needle felting from the comfort of your own home.  For this two hour workshop, you will be posted a kit ahead of time with everything you need to create your own little needle felted painting, framed in an embroidery hoop.  

Your kit will include:
- 4.5 x 5.5 inch dense foam pad; 
- Two felting needles; 
- A 4 inch wooden embroidery hoop; 
- One square of linen with a template design; and 
- Seven colours of carded Corriedale wool.

During the workshop, I will demonstrate all the techniques you need to learn complete your painting and would be delighted to offer any tips after the workshop for those wishing to continue with felting.  I run these workshops for a maximum of 10 individuals to allow plenty of time to answer any questions you may have.

This workshop is suitable for adults and children over 12.  Due to sharp needles, it is not recommended for young children.  Children over 12 should be supervised by an adult.

The workshops are run via Zoom, so you will need access to a suitable device and a reliable internet connection.

This was a really lovely class. I tend to be a bit hopeless with a needle and went into the class doubtful that I would make anything like as pretty as in the pictures advertising the class, but I was so happy with what I made. The class was very well taught - Gwen was patient and friendly and taught for every individual's pace. I think the kit is great value and amazingly generous - I only used about a third of the felt, so I'm thinking of trying to wet-felt some beads next! Highly recommended - I'm looking forward to trying another class with Gwen

Join me for an online needle felting workshop where you can make your own little needle felted blue tit. You will be sent a kit containing all the materials you need ahead of time.

Classes are taught via zoom, allowing you to have a crafty couple of hours from the comfort of your own home 😊.  Zoom is easy to use. I will set up a meeting and will send you a link ahead of time. Feel free to log in a few minutes before the workshop starts so you can get settled in and I can answer any of your queries. 

This online session lasts approximately two hours allowing plenty of time to interact and ask questions. 

There will be a maximum of ten people per class and there will be a camera focused on my desk to allow me to demonstrate each stage of the work and any particular techniques. 

Due to sharp needles, this workshop is not recommended for young children, and children over 12 should be supervised. 

I have run workshops in the past on different subject matters including bumblebees, toadstools and cacti. If there is anything in particular that you fancy felting, or if you’re interested in a specific date, please feel free to contact me.

I thoroughly enjoyed the class and am planning to make needle felting a hobby. Gwen is a great teacher the time allocated for the class was very appropriate and the end product was beautiful. All the materials, in fact surplus material, arrived in time and the virtual class meant people like me who live out of London could participate. I’m looking forward to Gwen’s next class! 

Spend a couple of hours producing your own little needle felted painting from the comfort of your own home.

Gwen is a felt artist and ecologist based in Dunblane, Scotland.  She is passionate about the UK’s native flora and fauna and is inspired by the beauty and variety of the UK’s landscapes; in particular the dramatic mountainscapes and beautiful coastlines of Scotland where she lives, and Wales where she was born.

To create a painting, she uses both needle-felting and wet-felting techniques; often using several rounds of both to achieve the desired effect.  Needle-felting is the process by which a barbed needle is used to tangle coloured wool into place, whilst wet-felting uses hot soapy water and agitation to further felt the fibres together.  The whole process often takes weeks to complete and, whilst the paintings don’t always turn out quite as expected, Gwen enjoys the challenge of creating an image using a completely different medium and loves the wonderful textures and effects that can be achieved when painting with wool.  

In November 2017, Gwen was accepted into her first exhibition at the MacRobert Arts Centre in Bridge of Allan, Stirling.  Since then, she has received a steady stream of commissions, has displayed a couple of individual paintings in local art galleries and was one of the featured artists for an exhibition at the Dancing Light Gallery in the Scottish Boarders in March 2020.

Since 2018, she has taken part in the Forth Valley Art Beat open studios event and has loved introducing people to this wonderful medium through in-person and on-line, workshops.
