Eloisa's parents started making masks in Venice in 1984, when they opened their shop and workshop, Ca’Macana. Today, Ca’Macana is one of the oldest and finest mask making workshops in the city. They craft authentic handmade masks in the same way Venetians used to over 800 years ago. Their masks have been featured in important film productions such as Eyes Wide Shut by Stanley Kubrick and Iain Declan Softley’s The Wings of the Dove, amongst others.
Eloisa has always been surrounded by Venetian masks. She learnt how to make them at the age of 8, when her parents used to take her to their workshop and let her play with the clay. This early introduction has since blossomed into a true passion for Venice and the traditional Venetian mask.
Today, her aim is to keep the Venetian mask tradition alive by reaching out to Londoners and continuing her family tradition in a new country. Her ambition is to spread the knowledge of these ancient and beautiful techniques and the world in which they were used.
