Collage is a way of creating a visual work of art by combining different elements - be they found images, patterns, bits of text, textured papers - in new and sometimes unexpected ways. We’ll explore collage through a series of tutorials covering different ways to create balance and visual interest, using a variety of subject matter (landscapes, faces, found poetry) as inspiration for our creations.

This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners, as well as those with experience who’d like to explore new approaches to making collage.

This workshop includes a two-hour live Zoom session, access to a series of instructional videos and demos, and a one-hour sharing Zoom event (all in all the equivalent of around two days of workshop activities, which you can work through at your own pace). Additionally, participants will receive a custom kit of collage papers via post in advance of the workshop (first class postage to UK addresses is included).

The optional one-hour Zoom sharing event takes place at the same time two weeks after the initial live workshop. This will be a casual opportunity for you to share your work, see what others have made, and ask any questions you may have.

Join artist Julie Galante for this online workshop in which you’ll make paper collages out of recycled and reused materials. Collage is a way of creating a visual work of art by combining different elements - be they found images, patterns, bits of text, textured papers - in new and sometimes unexpected ways. 

This workshop, which will be delivered via Zoom, is suitable for absolute beginners - no previous experience with collage required! Julie will provide step-by-step demonstrations and guide you through making your own small landscapes.

To prepare for the workshop, you’ll start collecting various bits of paper that you come across in your daily life. This can include newspapers and magazines, flyers, advertisements, packaging, photos, gift wrap, instruction sheets, pretty much anything! One of the things we love about collage is repurposing materials that would otherwise end up in the recycling bin. In the workshop, you'll arrange and combine these collected items to create unique pieces of art. 

Landscape Collage for Beginners

The research is in: journalling has been shown to have a long list of beneficial effects on mental health and well-being. In this workshop, lead by local artist and writer Julie Galante, you’ll be invited to start your own journalling practice in a welcoming and supportive environment. We’ll discuss different ways to approach a writing habit — including gratitude journalling, morning pages, and more — and try out some of them together. We’ll explore ways to use journalling to promote mindfulness, calm, and focus in your life.

Edinburgh-based artist, writer, and creative business mentor Julie Galante will lead you through a series of exercises and discussions that will help you develop some specific, actionable goals that really resonate with you. From there we’ll put together a plan to actually achieve them, including how to get back on track whenever life gets in the way, and how to make plans when the future feels so uncertain.

This workshop is for you whether your creative work is your profession or your passion. We’ll address the challenges we face as independent writers, artists, and makers in the real world — where distractions, obstacles, and motivation-zappers abound — and develop a strategy to move forward with the work that matters to us most. 

This two-hour interactive workshop will be delivered via Zoom. Places will be limited to ensure each participant has the opportunity to receive individual feedback and support. There will also be a free one-hour follow-up session (timing to be announced) where participants can report their progress and fine tune their action plan.

Join artist Julie Galante for this new online painting workshop. In a live 3-hour Zoom session, Julie will walk you through how to paint your very own still life featuring a bottle of wine, a wine glass, and your favourite snack. No previous painting experience required! The atmosphere will be welcoming and relaxed, and participants will be encouraged to share their creations with the group as they go along. You will paint along with Julie as she shows you how to create your still life step by step.
