What happens in this class?

Inspired by the photography of the Surrealist and Bauhaus period of the 1920s and 30s, this one-day workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn different ways of inventing images in the darkroom which cannot be seen through the camera.

During the first part of the workshop, you will be shown the principles of making a photogram and other experimental methods of printing images in black and white using your own negatives and found objects. You will be introduced to a range of techniques including:

  • The use of textures to create dreamlike images

Things to remember

Please come with a collection of objects to make Photograms with. Anything with an interesting outline/shape works well, preferably something that will lie relatively flat under glass. Translucent things also work well, as do detailed objects like lace, feathers, flowers etc.
