2 hour workshop
Suzie will teach you how to line up the fabric, attach it to specialist lampshade vinyl (glow tested and certified) and then craft it into a 30cm lampshade. The shade can be hung from a ceiling rose or mounted on a standard lamp. Once you’ve learned the technique, you’ll be able to create lampshades of your own in different sizes!
You will leave the class with info on all the supplies needed and lots of top tips too, so you can make lampshades just as good (or probably better) than the ones you buy from big retailers!
This workshop is perfect if you want to create a beautiful, lovingly made lampshade to brighten up your home. It's a wonderful, relaxing way to pass the evening! You don’t need any experience at all, as Suzie will take you through every step of the process.
Suzie's teaching is friendly and supportive – whether you’re skilled or a beginner, she’ll help you make something to be really proud of.

About your host, Suzie London
Suzie will be on maternity leave from 14 December and unable to take any more workshop bookings until Summer 2019
Suzie London, founded by Dutch-Australian designer Suzie Kemner, creates 'Pieces of joy' – fabric, fashion & homeware channelling 50's, 60's & 70's style with a fresh, modern edge.
Suzie was born in a small village in South Holland. The family moved to to Perth, Australia when Suzie was nine. Growing up as a teenager in Australia, Suzie’s favourite past-time became trawling charity shops, searching for unique vintage finds. A gifted artist, Suzie studied Graphic Design and Multimedia at The West Australian School of Art & Design and graduated in 1999.
In 2000 Suzie moved to London 'for a year' and fell in love with the city. She studied an introductory course in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and later Professional Sewing Techniques at the London College of Fashion, all the while working as a freelance graphic designer.
A million short courses in pattern cutting, textile design and shoe making followed, including screen printing, block printing, digital printing and draping on the stand, and slowly the idea for Suzie London began to emerge. Suzie began creating designs and patterns inspired by 50s, 60s and 70s designs, digitally printing onto natural fabrics including silk, cotton and linen, to create beautiful pieces of joy.
Having lived more than 15 years in London, Suzie considers herself a true Londoner, and champions local British manufacturing. Suzie sources natural fabrics such as 100% Organic Cotton Panama for printing her designs onto, using eco friendly water-based inks.
Nothing makes Suzie happier than designing and making things, and she makes all the zip pouches, espadrilles, cushions and lampshades herself, in her North London studio.
Suzie London has just opened it's first ever shop, in the amazing Blue House Yard in Wood Green, North London, and runs sewing workshops in the main Blue House.
You will need to bring or buy a skinny quarter or half a meter of fabric (100cm wide by 25cm long minimum). Light to medium weight cotton or linen work best. All other materials and tools are provided! Blue House Yard is right next to Wood Green Underground Station on the Piccadilly Line.
