I travel to your London home* to teach you the confidence to use your sewing machine in a fun and informal way. 

You will need access to your own sewing machine.

You will learn the following:
- Threading your machine with confidence.
- Sewing in a straight line using various stitches.
- Fabric properties appropriate to the task.
- Short cuts to sewing.
- Troubleshooting common machine 'issues'.
- how to make a tote bag/cushion cover

Dispel any worries you have about using a sewing machine. Once you start, you won't want to stop!

If you have a sewing experience and want to learn something more specific such as how to read a pattern or how to insert a zip, etc: I can help you with that too. I can 'tailor' (sorry) your class to your sewing needs. Just let me know when we connect.
The above options are flexible. All sessions can be adapted to your needs. Here are some further session ideas below:

- Make a cushion cover

- How to sessions. e.g buttonholes and zips. 

- Learn to navigate a dressmaking pattern.

- Private session updating your sewing skills.

- Embellish/upcycle your denim jacket.

- Make a reversible Obi style wrap belt.

- Complete beginners sewing session.

I also offer couples private sewing sessions and  parent and child (over 10 years old) sewing session.

Who am I? My name is Karen Arthur. I am a fashion designer and sewing tutor with @ReddskinUK have over 40 years sewing experience and almost 30 years teaching children and adults.  I have experience running my own workshops in Galleries and schools and have taught regularly at the Knitting and Stitching Show, the largest craft exhibition in Europe.

She was able to tailor (no pun intended) the two lessons perfectly.. giving me the confidence to plan and do many more projects with my sewing machine. Catford Dek.

We will meet at my studio in Catford Dek, South East London, a new creative hub that hosts many artists and designers!
If you haven't brought your own fabric I will give you a selection of Ankara (African print) cotton fabric to choose from. 
We will spend time cutting out the fabric pieces and I will share my knowledge of the fabric and the process.
We will make your item in a fun, informal atmosphere. Trust me, there will be lots of laughter!
You will learn how to:
- thread the sewing machine confidently.
-sew straight and zig-zag lines
- attach a patch pocket
-iron seams
- attach straps firmly.
You will create a gorgeous Ankara Tote bag* to pop your souvenirs in  or gift to someone special.
