Head & Hands curates and hosts a number of mindful workshops to help busy the hands and quiet the mind through tactile craft. These take place at Holdspace, a centre for arts and wellbeing in Angel, Islington.

Head & hands is founded by Amanda. Sometimes classes are taught by her, but she also invites a number of different artists and teachers to the programme to share skills and wisdom.

Previous workshops include weaving, ceramics, macrame, crystal jewellery making, embroidery, natural dyeing, botanical watercolour painting, calligraphy, cross stitch and printmaking.

Amanda is a really friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable teacher. I really enjoyed the class and was great we could take some yarn home to continue our weavings. The space was really light and airy and even better with some cake!

I really enjoyed this workshop! Charlene was really knowledgeable about dyes and has made me want to learn more! This was a really fun and relaxed class, part of the slow down club that Head and Hands upholds - I loved it.

It was a well run class, well organised with fresh warm pizza on offer with tea. Amanda was attentive to participants and had her partner who helped in the workshop too. I would recommend it to people to try.

I was so happy to learn new knowledge and crafts, and the teachers are so kindly informed us that I was able to keep up with it without any difficulties. It was really enjoyable time. The one bad thing was that i felt like the time passed too fast because it was too fun :) I will attend this class next time again!!

A wonderful workshop, thanks to Amanda. Instructions were clear and easy to follow, the vibe was very relaxed and lovely. We had a wonderful selection of wool to work with and I felt I learned a lot. Thank you! :)

The workshop was very well planned and the teacher created a friendly atmosphere for learning and socialising at the same time. Would definitely recommend it.

It was such a lovely relaxing class. I’d definitely recommend it to a friend. I’ll be checking out what other classes they have on there soon for sure. Thanks for a lovely evening of mindfulness and crafts.

I had such a great time at this work shop! I learnt new knot skills which gave me a real sense of achievement and seeing my plant hanger grow as I created it was really satisfying! Would highly recommend this class as a way to relax and to learn. The pace and tone was spot on - help was always at hand if anyone was in a tangle! I am very chuffed with my new creation!

This class was so lovely! The venue was cosy yet spacious with pretty fairy lights and lovely scents - there was even a pot of tea for everyone to enjoy! The class was intimate and friendly and I had the opportunity to meet other lovely crafty crafters. Amanda was a great teacher helping everyone out along the way and we all got to leave the workshop with our very own Macramé Plant Holder - I'll be visiting again!

I throughly enjoyed my evening. It was the start of a week off and really helped me to wind down and forget about work! Amanda was knowledgeable and approachable, the space is beautiful, I met some lovely people and it felt so good to focus my mind on what I was doing, in a relaxed environment. I'd highly recommend if you fancy doing something relaxing and a little bit different.

Taking charge of my well-being by discarding what was no longer serving me, establishing self-care rituals, the healing magic of slow crafts and rearranging my lifestyle a little, helped me finally get back on top of my health after years of being dragged along by it.
