In this one-hour workshop, you will learn how to create a decorative, multi-purpose tealight holder (that can also function as a succulent mini-pot!) for your home or as a wonderful gift for someone else. You will learn to experiment with casting using pigmentation, marbling, and finishing techniques, and you'll also learn about the versatility of Jesmonite AC100, a water-based eco-resin widely used to make decorative moulded objects. It is safe to use and contains no harmful chemicals.

Jesmonite Casting: Make Your Own Mini Pots

In this 90-minute workshop, you will learn how to pigment Jesmonite with different mixes of colours, and you will explore marbling and free-pouring techniques. You'll be making a chunky festive tealight holder which is around 12cms wide (and fits a standard 5cm tealight). You'll cast your festive tealight holder by pouring the material into silicone moulds. The tealight holder will then be sanded, sealed, and finished by me in my studio and posted to you within three working days. 

As pictured, our festive tealight holders come in a few different shapes: Christmas Trees, Stars, Reindeer, and Snowflakes. You may be randomly assigned a shape during the workshop depending on the size of the class. If you really want a specific shape, please let me know in advance!

Jesmonite Casting: Make Your Own Festive Tealight Holders

By Shax is an independent, conscious London-based art and homeware brand which uses a variety of materials to create handmade, unique, and vibrant pieces. With a focus on sustainable and bespoke homeware, most pieces are made with jesmonite which is an eco-resin. Jesmonite is often used in construction as an alternative to concrete, however it is VOC-free and much lighter. 

By Shax is a one-woman business and is owned by Shalaka Laxman, who is also a Sustainable Finance consultant and writer in London. Each piece is designed and handmade in her studio in the Isle of Dogs in East London.
