Welcome to this beginners class of transformation ! 

As a professional artist and maker of over 26 years, Jonny has learnt that there are infinite possibilities and ways of drawing out the creative wonder that exists within everything!


This is a workshop for beginners, but equally for seasoned makers who want to try something new - your creative potential really is unlimited. 

In this fun and relaxing 30 min session, you will learn the basic skills required to create an ornamental  flower from plastic bottles. You will follow our maker, Jonny as he demonstrates step by step. 

You will learn how to take a bottle and with various cuts transform it into a flower. Once this structure has been created, you will be guided on how to paint and decorate to achieve the look that you want. Each flower will be totally individual and will be as bright and colourful as you choose it to be! 

Once you have started you can then go on to create many more ! You can then join intermediate classes where ideas will begin to develop and become more intricate.

Plastic Bottle - transform a bottle into a flower of infinite possibilities

Learn how to take a 300ml plastic bottle and turn it into a flower with infinite possibilities. The style, colours and shapes are endless !

Who wants a boring old action man when you could have your very own personalised merman or mermaid? It’s a no brainer really! 

Over two separate sessions you will take an existing doll of action man size and transform it into a spectacular merman/ mermaid.  It will be a good idea to think about the kind of merman or mermaid you want to create beforehand and you may find it helpful to carry out an internet search prior to the lesson to get inspiration and to work on a particular look  - the possibilities are endless! 

This is a two part workshop. We will create the structure in the first workshop using copper wire to create the new structures required for the tail etc.
It is important to have an action man sized figure that has flexible ankles so that they can be pointed downwards. If they are not flexible, then you will either need to remove the feet, find another figure or if you are willing to be extra creative you can find a way to disguise them.

Since the workshop is very much about reusing and repurposing materials, it is possible to use electrical wiring from an old / unused appliance. With the careful use of a craft knife,  the rubber outer sheathing can be removed to reveal the 7 or so copper wires. You will need wire about 0.5mm thick for this. Once you have your 7/8 50cm pieces of copper wire, a pair of scissors or wire cutters and an action figure you are ready to go!

The second workshop will then focus on covering the new structure / body and decoration.

Jonathan has been a maker and visual artist for most of his life. At the age of 12, he formed a strong bond with his ceramics teacher at school and his love of art just continued to grow.
After graduating with a degree in Fine Art and Ceramics in London, he has had a varied career from making costumes, sets, puppets and props for theatrical productions as well as creating art installations for six month old babies and thousands of people at art festivals. He has taught and run workshops to kids from Primary through to Secondary school education, as well as to people living in care homes and housing estates. Thousands of people on hundreds and hundreds of amazing projects! 
JoNny has been a Buddhist for over 20 years. During 2018, the Buddhist yearly theme was “Year of Brilliant achievement”. Whilst travelling in the Philippines, he fell in love with the beautiful island of Siquijor and decided to create an amazing arts centre there. So !! As you can imagine, building this in the middle of a global pandemic has been a huge challenge. Of course JoNny had no idea it was coming !  He now has an amazing space full of his art and wonderful creations. Consequently,  he has had a really astonishing and creative COVID experience and it is something that he really wants to share from this  beautiful and mystic place.  He is very proud of what he has been able to achieve with the help and support of many local people here. Having been in lock down since March he is looking for ways to continue both his art and love of teaching. His brother runs many wood carving workshops with Obby. He is now joining him, but online being on the other side of the world for now! He's really looking forward to engaging with many creative people making all sorts of things !!
