This three hour workshop will teach you about the different types of candles that are sold in the UK, then learn the skills to make your own using natural soy and beeswax! This hands-on workshop will show you how to make a variety of beautiful candles. Choose from a range of fragrances and dyes to personalise your very own candle range. At the end you take home the candles you have made plus a copy of our step-by-step course notes.

Workshop format:

> Workshop run by a “Chandler” (a professional candle-maker) 

> Introduction to candle-making through the ages 

> Overview of the different types of wax, wicks, dyes, fragrances and candles 

> Demonstration of 4 different candle-making techniques
 
> Using individual melters, melt two types of soy wax (container and pillar), add dyes, fragrance oils and wicks to make four types of candle: container, pillar, floating and rolled beeswax

> Legal requirements including CLP

> Finish your candles off with beautiful packaging and decorations 

> Participants take home their own candle creations and a 22 page user guide to enable them to recreate other candles at home

Her garden studio is excellent - it was comfy and warm and had good light.  We loved making a variety of different styles of candles and the helpful guide we were given at the end will be a useful prompt for home use.   It was a thoroughly enjoyable morning.  My top tip is to have breakfast in Coopers Roastery & Coffee Bar on the neighbouring industrial estate. There is a  free multi storey carpark next to Coopers and you then have a 4 minute walk to Sarah’s across the railway line.  The path across the railway line is behind the green metal gate immediately before the tunnel.

Candle by Events is the candle-making experience company based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. We run weekly events all around candle-making in our Marlow studio plus other venues across the country.

Founded in 2008 by Sarah Ditchfield, the business started off producing candles for shops, hotels and restaurants. In 2012 we built our candle-making studio and began running open workshops for beginners plus themed candle-making events around Easter, Christmas and other celebrations. We also run children parties, family fun days, hen parties and corporate team building events - all around candle-making. Besides hands-on candle-making we coach and support candle-making entrepreneurs helping them set up their own successful businesses.  In addition to our face-to-face workshops we run online courses.

Our founder has written two candle-making books published by Dorling Kindersley and Search Press, which can be purchased in book shops and online.

Would you like to learn how to make candles? We run a number of open workshops in Marlow and London.  Attending one of our workshops does not need to be a one-off experience.  We offer you lots of options, so you can experience any or all of our workshops and never make the same candle twice!  We also offer our workshops online delivered with kit, vidoes and Zoom!
