In the world of penmanship, offhand flourishing is the ultimate showcase of your calligraphy skills. It is an ancient calligraphy technique, which involves drawing and calligraphy to produce beautiful, intricate ornamental flourishes. When you look at a finished piece, the flourishes appear to be quite complex and elaborate but the process of creating off-hand flourishing is actually quite simple and structured. There are no preliminary drawings to guide you. It is a free-hand drawing process, which is quite meditative and magical.

In this workshop, you will learn step by step how to create intricate flourished designs and produce stunning festive cards and artworks that would make perfect handmade gifts this Christmas.

What to expect?

 •	We will cover the basics of pointed pen calligraphy strokes followed by compound curves and cartouches. 

•	Once you become familiar with the beautiful pen strokes, you will learn the technique of offhand flourishing, which can be adapted into any shape and design. Using this technique you can create bespoke cards; embellish an envelope or create unique works of art that can be framed. The possibilities are endless. 

 •	This workshop is suitable for all levels. Familiarity with using the dip pen would be helpful but not compulsory.

In a world of digital planners, smart phones and productivity apps, the simple art of writing can often seem irrelevant. However, handwritten planners offer a better sensory experience and help you to streamline your jumbled thoughts, ideas and to-do lists in one place. 

In this workshop we will introduce you to the Bullet journaling system and help you set up your own customised journal. The Bullet journal, also known as Bujo is a simple and effective way to spark your creativity and get those to-do-lists under control. The Bullet journal is personal and flexible - it is a planner, a habit tracker, a diary, a journal and a calendar all in one place. It is a mindful and creative way to organise your life and you don’t need any artistic skills to get started. All you need is a pen, a notebook and some inspiration. 

In this two-part workshop we will also cover the basics of brush pen calligraphy using a fudenosuke brush pen. At the end of the workshop you will learn how to incorporate art, hand-lettering and creativity in your bullet journal. If you want to be creative, declutter your mind, organise your life, and increase your productivity the Bujo is the way to go!

**What to expect?**

- You will learn all about the Bullet journaling system and how it works. 

- We will explore various layouts, habit trackers and daily planners and include special pages for all your interests.

- We will cover the basics of Brush pen calligraphy and focus on creating beautiful thick and thin strokes using your brush pen. 

- Once you become familiar with the pen strokes through practice drills, you will learn how to create letterforms (uppercase and lowercase) step by step, followed by words.

Modern Calligraphy has a universal appeal, as it is a more flexible, accessible, and playful version of traditional Calligraphy. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners. No previous experience required. Young adults welcome (Ages 13+).

Dr. Sai Banerjee is an experienced teaching artist, art historian and calligrapher committed to promoting creativity as a wellness practice through art and calligraphy. Sai is the founder of Blue Palette Art Studio – a creative space that nurtures mindful creativity through classes, courses and workshops for adults and children. 

As a former University lecturer with a Ph.D. in Art History, Sai discovered her passion for teaching and learning. Based on personal experience, Sai truly believes in the transformative power of art and its positive impact on our wellbeing. Her goal is to share this awareness with others and help people connect with their creative selves. Being a Multipotentialite, Sai has a range of interests and skills that she loves to share with others. 

Sai started as a self-taught Modern Calligrapher. Over the years, she has trained with some of the most renowned Master Penmen and Calligraphers around the world, which has led to her expertise in various calligraphy styles, including Copperplate, Spencerian, Broad Edge, Italic, and Brush Pen Calligraphy. Sai regularly works on exclusive projects and live events with some of the most prestigious luxury brands, such as Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Montblanc, Guerlain, Dior, Vacheron Constantin, and many others. 

Whether it's doodling in an art journal or practicing calligraphy, Mindfulness is an important part of Sai's creative practice. Her approach to teaching is gentle and optimistic, focusing on the process rather than the outcome. Her main aim as a teacher is to demystify the complexities of learning a new skill and provide her students with the knowledge and confidence they need to pursue their newfound interests.
